NIH funded postdoctoral position available to investigate the role of spared brain regions on functional motor recovery after acquired brain injury (stroke traumatic brain injury) utilizing animal models. This position offers an exciting opportunity to study the mechanisms of neuroplasticity and rehabilitation utilizing microelectrode array recording and stimulation techniques.Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment.
Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career. A postdoctoral scholar at KUMC is expected to: Participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent research as well promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation for a career in research or academia participate in the Universitys Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree (such as MD DVM PsyD PharmD etc.) and candidates should have strong English skills and demonstrate an ability to write and communicate with a scientific audience. Candidates must be able to independently plan multi-task and complete projects. Ideally the fellow will be expected to design and execute experiments analyze data write and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications and supervise graduate students.

Required Qualifications
Education:PhD in Neuroscience Computer Science Bioengineering Physiology or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience:
Experience with research involving animals.
Animal Behavior training and testing.
Single unit neurophysiology data acquisition and analysis.
Skills:
Highly motivated to learn assertive detail oriented organized can prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.
Sound judgement strong analytical skills and exceptional interpersonal skills
Experience with Matlab and other quantitative laboratory tools.
Job Duties Outlined:
Conduct research on brain connectivity patterns using chronic neuronal recording techniques in behaving animals.
Assist in behavioral traning of animals
Prepare written and oral reports on research progress and participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC.
Actively apply for Postdoctoral Fellowship funding from various sponsors.
Assist in training other postdoctoral fellows graduate students and research assistants in techniques used for investigation of brain connectivity.
Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation understand and follow IACUC animal and biosafety protocols and attend regular lab meetings.

At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
