POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Nurse Midwife - Intrapartum (CNM) under the direction of the Medical Director/Supervising Physician and/or the MBCC Director and Womens Services Manager is a Registered Nurse who is certified as a CNM and possesses additional clinical and didactic education to function at an advanced level of nursing practice. They will be clinically competent in physical diagnosis psychosocial assessment and management of health-illness needs to provide direct patient care and education to patients families students and nursing staff. The CNM will focus on pregnancy and womens health issues and perform the full scope of practice for a Nurse Midwife including doing deliveries. The CNM consistently demonstrates the core values of Enloe Medical Center and serves as a role model to other employees.
A Certified Nurse Midwife Intrapartum (CNM) is a registered nurse who is a graduate of a Board-approved nurse-midwifery program and who possesses evidence of certification issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing. A CNM may be known as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in accordance with Business and professions Code Section 2725.5. Nurse-midwifery practice as conducted by CNMs is the independent comprehensive management of womens health care in a variety of settings focusing primarily on pregnancy childbirth and the postpartum period. It also includes care of the newborn and the family planning and gynecological needs of women throughout the life cycle.
CNMs are providers of primary health care for women and newborns. Primary care by CNMs incorporates all of the essential factors of primary care and case management that includes evaluation assessment treatment and referral as required in the inpatient and outpatient areas. CNMs may also assist in surgical procedures once an approved didactic program is completed and proctoring completed. CNMs are often the initial contact for the provision of integrated accessible health care services to women and they provide such care on a continuous and comprehensive basis by establishing a plan of management with the woman for her ongoing health care.

Must have the confidence and experience to work independently with diverse patient populations and experience in accessing specialty referrals and community resources. Must have the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Must have the ability to lead motivate delegate analyze information and problem solve.
