Job Description

Under the direction of the AVP of IT and guidance from the Network Engineer the Senior Network Administrator is responsible for managing monitoring troubleshooting implementing improving and recommending changes to all aspects of the credit unions network internet and network security. You will own designing implementing and supporting the network and telecommunications infrastructure to include LAN WAN Internet Wireless Voice and Fax operations in accordance with the recommendations and specifications of the Network Engineer and AVP of IT. This role will assist with mentoring staff members problem-solving complex issues ongoing projects and staying abreast of current network routing and switching technologies as well as network security and cybersecurity development.

This position will be fully onsite at our offices in Austin TX with on-call responsibilities for any systems emergencies outages and network issues as needed.

In this role with UHCU you will get to:

  • Assist with the design implementation maintenance and support of wide area networks (WAN) local area networks (LAN) Internet and Intranet guest Wi-Fi network firewalls routers switches desktop systems and network infrastructure. Primary focus on the areas of network routing and switching.
  • Deliver comprehensive IT support including network monitoring and performance tuning QoS design and support as well as advanced network troubleshooting and testing across multiple secure networks.
  • Assess and document current site network configuration and user requirements through the utilization of network diagramming software (i.e. Visio).
  • Utilize complex network analysis tools to identify problems and correct issues.
  • Assist the server admins with the planning designing maintenance and upgrading physical and virtual servers and related infrastructure across the Credit Union as applicable to network needs and requirements.
  • Configure and support LAN and WAN hardware software and applications to include voice video and data cable systems.
  • Maintain and enforce network hardware and software configuration standards and policies.
  • Coordinate with vendors and partners to design develop and test new secure connections fostering efficient and reliable network operations as well as security-related events.
  • Assist the Network Engineer with the design and implementation of robust security controls designed to detect and protect against sophisticated cyber-attacks and threats.
  • Report mitigate and remediate any security issues discovered or relayed by MSPs vulnerability scans or penetration testing.
  • Collaborate with the Network Engineer on network and network security projects through all phases ensuring successful completion.
  • Participate in group design and product recommendations evaluations and configurations. Effectively partner with key stakeholders to conduct needs assessments as necessary.
  • Assist the Network Engineer and AVP of IT in preparing technical proposals for adding new technologies to the network and present to senior management for approval.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies providing recommendations for innovative solutions and emerging technologies.
  • Serve as a technical mentor to staff members on the Information Technology team while assisting in ad-hoc and formal coaching and development efforts.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

What you will need to succeed:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science MIS or another related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of demonstrated technical experience in an enterprise network environment with progressive responsibilities related to designing developing planning deploying and supporting route/switch/firewall solutions.
  • A CCNA CCNP or CCIE certification or advanced demonstrated experience with Cisco networking equipment operating systems and protocols in an enterprise environment.
  • Sound understanding of networking fundamentals as they relate to enterprise networks including but not limited to TCP/IP DNS DHCP ARP and DFS.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing protocols including STP EtherChannel (LACP/PAgP) VLAN Port Security QoS OSPF BGP EIGRP static routing route distribution and policy-based routing.
  • Experience with Cisco IOS/NX-OS and Dell OS10/OS6 platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience with cybersecurity/Information Security control monitoring and mitigation strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with firewalls and network security to include Cisco ASA Cisco Firepower Threat Defense ACLs NAT/PAT configurations VPNs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scripting and automation with applications and tools.
  • Experience with Network Access Control (NAC) systems such as Cisco ICE.
  • Desired experience with the following applications:
    • Advanced knowledge of QoS settings configurations and troubleshooting.
    • Unix (AIX) OS & shell scripting
    • DellQuest Desktop Authority desktop management KACE management
