Description

SUMMARY

Develop civil engineering design and construction criteria in cold regions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct basic and applied research in cold regions-related civil and materials engineering areas.
  • Perform standard laboratory and field methods or investigations using standardized and novel techniques.
  • Investigate various civil engineering topics and solutions and its effects in cold regions.
  • Conduct extensive background literature reviews and visit field sites to observe and/or identify precedent or related work performed.
  • Identify and propose problems within the assigned basic area of specialization.
  • Formulate specific conclusions that are presented in a series of published contributions to knowledge in the area of specialization.
  • Publish reports to Department of Defense other government agencies and selected universities foundations and interested groups within the U.S. and foreign countries.
  • Present findings at professional and scientific group-meetings on topics within specialty.
  • Assist in work execution and technology transfer through scientific report writing peer review publications and scientific presentations.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in an applicable discipline. In lieu of degree relevant work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
  • Eight (8) years of professional engineering and scientific experience ideally with the U.S. Corps of Engineers and ERDC groups.
  • Must be able to pass successfully a NACI (National Agency Check with Inquiries) background check.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a Secret clearance (generally U.S. Citizenship required).
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Familiar with a variety of the concepts practices and procedures within a projects technical field.
  • Expertise in applying current and evolving engineering technologies.
  • Ability to execute complex multi-faceted projects within established financial and time constraints.
  • Working knowledge of all phases of computer system design and computer software acquisition management.
  • Working knowledge of computer system design and computer software acquisition management

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.

TRAVEL

The expected travel time is less than 25%.


DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Must have or be able to attain a valid state drivers license and be insurable on the companys automobile insurance policy. Driving with or without accommodation may be required when traveling for training and/or short occasional amounts of local expected driving time is less than 25%.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a professional office setting and laboratory testing environment including the normal office equipment (computer fax machines copier) laboratory equipment and with a wide variety of people in differing functions personalities and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position consists of sitting for long periods of time using hands/fingers handling reaching with hands and arms talking hearing; occasional walking or standing bending kneeling stooping crouching and lifting boxes weighing up to 20 pounds. Moderate to extended periods of office work with heavy periods of computer usage. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS PACKAGE

  • Pay range: Up to $100000/year
