About this opportunity:

The primary responsibility of the Business Opportunity Manager (BOM) role is to work across Oil Sands functions to develop manage and deliver strategies & projects that maximize the value of the asset. BOM functions include articulating business cases for opportunities collaborating with a variety of subject areas progressing projects through the stage gate approval process and capital management of the project portfolio.

Success in this role requires collaborating and building alignment with functional teams that include Subsurface Development Asset Development Well Delivery Major Projects and Operations while driving consistency of the BOM functions across projects and the CTCHO assets. Demonstrating technical expertise and knowledge of CVE processes (resource development stage gates capital management long range planning etc.) to provide mentorship and build robust business cases will be essential to success in this role.

What youll do:

  • Accountable for the business case (qualitative and quantitative) through the project lifecycle from initiation to benefits realization

  • Lead integrated project teams to advance opportunities pre-Gate 2B including defining objectives and stewarding projects through the capital governance and stage gate processes; support Project Manager post-Gate 2B

  • Manage asset and/or project capital by working with Project Managers to ensure spend aligns to project & budget approvals

  • Provide monthly capital forecast updates in collaboration with Planning and Project Managers continuously identifying and communicating levers for capital optimization

  • Maintain objective and comprehensive view of the asset scope and capital for the budget and business plan

  • Collaborate with development and execution teams to define and advance the overarching asset strategy ensuring it increases asset value while balancing other drivers

  • Lead the business interfaces for assigned asset and projects by maintaining close communication with Project and Scoping managers to ensure changes risks and interdependencies are understood throughout the project life cycle

  • Support complex regulatory applications and communicate schedule risks as required

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Licensed Professional Engineer or Geoscientist registered with APEGA

  • 12 years in an upstream technical asset development or project management role(s); Conventional or SAGD subsurface technical experience is preferred

  • Experience with capital management and optimizing project value is considered an asset

  • Demonstrates a passion for continuous improvement and shares their expertise to further develop their technical skills support peers investigate opportunities and deliver results

  • Collaborative hardworking and versatile with a desire to pull people together to increase the value of projects

  • Skilled in all facets of communication and effectively adjusts the level of detail and tone to the audience

  • Track record of working with a team in a fast-paced environment where priorities change frequently to solve complex or ambiguous problems with innovative solutions
