Job Description

Summary Statement

The incumbent reports directly to the Forensic ToxicologyCasework Lab Manager I. Responsibilitiesinclude analysis of complex biological matrices for both postmortem andDUI/other cases; processing and review of batch paperwork; operationmaintenance and troubleshooting of analytical equipment and instrumentation;preparation of standards and reagents; participation in research projects; andtestimony in court.

Selective Requirement

Selective Requirements must be met in addition to the job requirements. Applicants who do not possess the selective requirement will not be qualified.

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Chemistry Biochemistry Forensic Science or related field.

Preferred Qualification

Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.

  1. Six months experience working in Forensic Toxicology.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Prepares samples for instrument analysis interprets instrument recordings and documents test results.
  • Uses analytical chemistry techniques including state-of-the-art instrumentation to gather data involving samples.
  • Analyzes laboratory data to determine quantity and quality of toxins pathogens chemical and biochemical constituents.
  • Prepares reports identifying samples explains testing methods and documents findings and conclusions of analysis

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Analytical Chemist II
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in generating and interpreting chemical test data by performing quantitative and/or qualitative statistical analysis.
  2. Six months experience in selecting laboratory test methods and procedures.
  3. Six months experiencein physical organic inorganic or analytical chemistry.
  4. Six months experience in using laboratory equipment and instrumentation including calibration and maintenance.
  5. Six months experience in technical report writing.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicableterms and conditions of employment in accordance with Title 29 Chapter 59 and Title 19 Chapter 13 and 16. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.

As a Condition of Hire a satisfactory background check (including a fingerprint-based background check administered by the Delaware State Police) is required. The selected candidate will be required to submit a buccal swab for DNA upon employment and subjected to randomized drug testing during the term of their employment.
