Job Description

What You Will Do:

As a Dispatcher/Gas Controller you will play an essential role within our Anchorage Gas Control department reporting to the Supervisor of Gas Control. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and control the flow of natural gas throughout the pipeline and distribution systems; maintain pressures and flows within limits.
    • Increase or decrease pressure in pipeline according to forecast.
    • Review correlating data (pressure volume and temperatures) with variables affecting consumer demand such as weather conditions time of day and forecast to operate the pipeline system safely and efficiently.
    • Remotely control/operate pipeline compressors regulators and valves.
    • Monitor and interface with the SCADA system; input updated values.
    • Monitor odorant injection levels dew points valve positions and other operational conditions/requirements according to Federal Department of Transportation regulations.
    • Inform gas producers of gas supply needed to maintain sufficient pressure and volume in pipeline.
  • Respond to calls from power generating stations transport customers and ENSTAR personnel.
  • Prepare daily weekly and monthly reports for management.
  • Log employee calls regarding attendance.
  • Maintain after-hours security monitor security cameras etc.
  • Receive incoming emergency calls and incoming calls on holidays weekends and after hours.
  • Monitor Service department personnel field activities including installation service and maintenance.
    • Determine and schedule work orders according to urgency.
    • Enter gas leak and emergency work order information.
    • Respond to requests from service technicians and/or customers input request information into tracking systems.
  • Prepare daily and monthly gas nominations and balancing based on contracts spot purchases and exchange agreements between various entities including ENSTAR gas customers firm and interruptible transport customers gas producers and gas brokers.
  • Maintain information on all large transport meters and input meter reads.
  • Calculate standard volumes for billing on large commercial accounts and prepare tabulated data for Marketing.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Track orifice plate changes and lost/unaccounted for gas.
  • Prepare monthly calibration reports for the Measurement team; maintain calibration files for the Company producers transport customers the State of Alaska and regulators.

What You Will Bring:

Required Qualifications

  • Two- or four-year technical degree or education.
  • Two years gas/pipeline/utility industry or related experience.
  • Experience operating and configuring PC based systems including Microsoft Office Suite with high proficiency in Excel.
  • SCADA or refinery work background preferred.
  • Two years experience in gas balancing operational dispatching pipeline operations or related preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of gas sources and pipeline systems significant pipeline experience preferred.
  • Experience with instrumentation measurement and piping
  • Familiar with PHMSA CFR 192.631 preferred.
  • Must be able to work various shifts (12 hours) evenings nights weekends and holidays.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to pass federally required initial and continuous Operator Qualifications training.
  • Must possess a valid Alaska Drivers License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTARs Driving Policy.
  • Must be able to pass a background past employment drug and driving record screening.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Practical knowledge of pipeline operations
  • Ability to be detail oriented; exceptional organizational information management and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer and written records to present information to management.
  • Ability to communicate in verbal and written form effectively accurately and clearly with the public customers utilities emergency responders governmental agencies and representatives and other departments/personnel to accomplish ENSTARs objectives.
  • Ability to learn and understand department policies and procedures and how they relate to ENSTARs goals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks and stressful situations.
  • Ability to make independent decisions based on an evaluation of available information particularly regarding emergency situations emergency response time and performance of job duties.
  • Ability to respond to telephone requests and utilize computer and written records to research information requested by service personnel and/or customers.
  • Ability to learn and understand practical information regarding the SCADA system configuration and operation.
