About the Ransom Center
The Ransom Center is an internationally renowned humanities research library and museum at The University of Texas at Austin. Its extensive collections provide unique insight into the creative process of writers and artists deepening our understanding and appreciation of literature photography film art and the performing arts. Visitors engage with the Centers collections through research and study exhibitions publications and a rich variety of program offerings including readings talks symposia and film screenings.

Job Description
Join the Harry Ransom Centers archival accessioning team! The Department of Collections Management has 1 opening for a Federal Work-Study student this Fall semester. In this position you will assist in reviewing preserving and describing literary papers of noted authors from around the world.

Duties Include:

  • Reviewing new collection materials to gather descriptive information
  • Rehousing new collections into archival housings
  • Performing preservation tasks such as making special housings and preservation photocopying
  • Assist staff with collection shelf space management and other projects as needed


Required Qualifications
This Work-Study position is federally funded through a Title III Waiver Program. Due to the federal funding category this position is unfortunately not open to international students. All candidates must provide a proof of their work-study award with application materials.


Successful candidates will have a professional and positive attitude excellent communication skills attention to detail and strong organizational skillsand an interest in learning about the Humanities. Must be reliable punctual and available to work Monday Friday between the 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. 8-10 hours per week. This is for an onsite (non-remote) position.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with library classification systems or interest in library materials is a plus
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain a consistent work schedule


Position Duration:
This is a Fall 2025 position. The position may continue into the Spring and Summer semesters if the students Work Study Award is renewed for each of those semesters.


Pay range: $10-15/hour

Working Conditions

Typical office environment.

Work Shift

Up to 10 hours/week Monday-Friday between 8:00am-4:00pm
