As the SeniorMechanical Engineer on our Strykers Orthopedic Instruments new product development team you will be responsible for understanding customer pain points and provide your design solutions from concept to production in addition to providing technical focus across our Mechanical Engineering program role will collaborate with other focused thought leaders and partner with R&D teams throughout Stryker to conceptualize develop and release solutions to improve surgery outcomes.

You will need to live within commuting distance to our Portage Michigan office. You will need to be in the office 4 days a week (Monday-Thursday) and can work from home on other days.
What you will do
Assist in researching designing developing modifying and verifying mechanical components for medical devices.
Translate design inputs to engineering specifications and produce sub-system level designs.
Develop and analyze solutions prototyping one or more options to provide proof of concept.
Collaborate with R&D Quality Manufacturing Regulatory Clinical Marketing and Project Management to support project success.
Help analyze and correct product design issues using guidance from senior engineers. Contribute to solutions by applying knowledge of customer needs market and competitive offerings.
Participate in prototyping and testing. Apply knowledge of clinical procedures to support design inputs. Assist in Voice of Customer sessions internally and with clinicians.
Gain proficiency with industry standards including design requirements and test strategies per applicable regulations.
Support the creation and refinement of engineering documentation such as the Design History file.
Follow R&D procedures like design controls and risk management per the Quality Management System.
Identify and suggest improvements to procedures policies processes systems and technology.
Assist in executing segments of complex multifunctional teams to advance projects through the design/development/launch process.
What you need
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design engineering within a research and development (R&D) environment
Demonstrated mechanical engineering problem-solving skills
Experience with 3D CAD modeling (Creo Preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
Medical device industry experience
Experience with customer centered designs
Experience in developing and optimizing complex designs for mechanical / electro-mechanical assemblies incorporating DFM principles
Experience in creating engineering drawings models applying GD&T and CAE tools to optimize the design
