Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Warehouse Technician

Department: Procurement

Location: Juneau

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade(s): 7 ($25.01 DOE)

Purpose: The Warehouse Technician will provide skilled support to the Procurement division. The incumbent will be responsible for inventory shipping and receiving and will be the liaison for small construction projects within a warehouse.

Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Complete tasks and/or projects within established procedures and/or instructions.
  • Assign projects and assist staff to complete goals.
  • Resolve differences within guidelines of the program with clients contractors vendors outside agencies employees and the public.
  • Operate hand or power tools.
  • Conduct daily maintenance on and operate on/off-site equipment: forklift skid-steer etc.
  • Load unload and identify deployable materials machinery and tools.
  • Distribute and track tools to the appropriate locations according to project plans and specifications.
  • Fill material orders and prepare for shipment.
  • Check shipping documents for proper descriptions of commodities (including hazardous materials) weight packaging marking labeling and other information necessary to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of customer freight.
  • Maneuver vehicle in safe and efficient manner while transporting cargo in situations of heavy traffic inclement weather and difficult loading or unloading facilities.
  • Load/unload truck/trailer securing shipments using a variety of cargo straps ropes lumber etc. This may involve climbing up and on to the deck of a flatbed on to a flatbed load and/or into and out of containers and trailers as needed.
  • Maintain records required for compliance with Tribal State Federal rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a detailed inventory of warehouse items pre-packaged supplies tool and deployed and recommend warehouse operating guidelines and inventory control plans.
  • Coordinate special projects and services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities. A comprehensive set of capabilities required to perform job tasks effectively:

  • Knowledge of warehouse management and materials handling principles.
  • Ability to apply above principles to situations or problems of moderate complexity with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Moderate reading writing and computer skills.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
  • Able to operate heavy equipment including an L90 loader 844 Telehandler and forklifts.
  • Able to operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use good judgment when making decisions within the scope of authority.
  • Mechanical aptitude necessary to determine plan of action in emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications (education experience skills):

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One(1) year experience in warehouse operations.
  • Two (2) years experience operating heavy equipment.

Physical Requirements. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • The majority of this work requires frequent walking standing bending and carrying of items weighing more than 50lbs on concrete floors. The employee may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and working around moving machinery.

Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  • Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
  • Certain positions at Tlingit & Haida may have exposure to certain hazardous materials or conditions. The supervisor will review these if applicable.
