Job Summary Provides technical assistance and support services to the personal or commercial lines of the Underwriting team and management. Junior Underwriter handles several aspects of policy processing and issuance which include new business and/or renewal preparation; endorsement processing; cancellations; and/or all other policy processing-associated tasks. Ability to balance attentiveness to detail with deadlines and prioritization needs. Reviews renewal applications for insurance to evaluate the degree of risk involved determines coverage amounts and premium for personal or commercial lines business with appropriate approval. Responsible for retention of existing business in accordance with company underwriting philosophy and individual level of authority. Job Responsibilities - Processes and prepares endorsements reinstatements non-renewals notices or cancellations and other associated tasks as required.
- Supports underwriting in the entry and processing of new business submission documents and quotes along with policy issuance.
- Supports preparation tasks and processing for policy renewals (including preparation of invoices).
- Completes data entry into internal system.
- Processing high volumes of incoming emails correspondence faxes and written requests.
- Updates systems with client information for new and existing clients.
- Sends out policy documents billing statements notices and other necessary correspondence daily.
- Calculates premiums and establishes payment method. Appropriately prices renewal policies.
- Determines and negotiates appropriate pricing coverage limits coverages and the terms and conditions for acceptable risks of the proposed insurance policy. Renders decisions based on consultations with Senior Underwriters and manager.
- Examines expiring policy evaluates loss data and makes risk assessments.
- Underwrites policy renewals for individuals businesses or housing entities
- Makes final determination within company guidelines on risk acceptability for renewal applications. Renders decisions based on consultations with Senior Underwriters and manager.
- Interacts with policyholders clients or brokers to deliver and explain policy.
- Evaluates risks examining general condition type of construction age and other characteristics to decide if it is a good insurance risk.
- Performs administrative tasks such as answering phones maintaining records handling billing matters and providing service to both external and internal customers.
- Participates in cross-functional team training.
- Provides customer support on behalf of the underwriters and Underwriting Team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision of Others N/A Minimum Qualifications - Bachelors degree in business administration or related field required or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 2-4 years of underwriting experience required.
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation. No felony theft or fraud convictions.
Additional Eligibility Requirements - New employees must complete the Associate in Insurance (AINS) designation within six months from the end of the 90-day evaluation period to be eligible for advancement and incentive compensation.
- For continued employment employees must complete an elective course and six hours of professional development within 12 months after the end of the 90-day evaluation period.
