JOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION TITLE: Teacher REPORTS TO:Director of Special Education and/or Site AdministratorQUALIFICATIONS:Certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education in Early Childhood Elementary or Secondary Education or the ability to obtain of and experience with multiple teaching techniques and methods to modify classroom instruction to meet students work experience and effectiveness with a population that exhibits challenging and understanding of health safety and emergency procedures in a school and competency in Crisis Intervention/Mediation or the ability to complete training on : Work jointly with classroom assistants and special education teachers to provide instruction to students using the Common Core State individualized study plans and IEPs / 504s utilizing the IEP and other meetings to present students current levels of performance and identify future with educators and other staff to develop structures and procedures that will enable students with challenging behaviors to succeed in school and communityImplement modify and report on those procedures for identified studentsCollect data as needed to monitor the efficacy of individual behavioral programsCommunicate expectations and outcomes to students staff and families regularlyWork directly with students at risk to help them develop appropriate behaviors and conflict-resolution skillsProvide support to staff and students in the event of a safety-related incident including when necessary the use of appropriate physical interventionSupport students in their efforts to complete classroom work and to achieve their annual and long-term academic goalsPerform duties as assigned by the Site Administrator or the Director of Special EducationUpdated 7/8/25
