About the Role

Talent Depot is seeking a Director of Civil Engineering to lead and expand the transportation engineering portfolio for a growing engineering and planning firm in Chicago IL. This is a high-impact leadership position offering the opportunity to shape strategic direction manage top-tier projects and mentor a diverse and high-performing team. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in municipal and site design engineering and a strong track record in transportation project delivery.


Key Responsibilities

Practice Leadership & Strategy

  • Drive growth across municipal and site design engineering services

  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and operational oversight

  • Promote a culture of excellence collaboration and innovation

  • Represent the firm externally to elevate its brand and technical reputation

Project Delivery & Quality Control

  • Serve as Project Manager or Subject Matter Expert on major projects

  • Ensure high-quality deliverables that meet or exceed client expectations

  • Oversee operational systems to improve process efficiency and project outcomes

  • Track and manage project performance including revenue and profitability metrics

Team Management & Development

  • Lead mentor and manage a cross-disciplinary team of engineers and planners

  • Support employee development through training evaluation and succession planning

  • Recruit and retain diverse talent aligned with firm values and client needs

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with clients and industry partners

  • Participate in client-facing activities professional associations and public speaking

  • Identify new business opportunities including cross-sector collaboration with consulting and civil engineering teams

  • Pursue grants technical assistance and contracts to support client growth



Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (PE preferred)

  • 10 years of civil engineering experience including 4 years in a leadership role

  • Strong background in transportation-focused civil engineering project delivery

  • Experience overseeing design submittals permitting and agency coordination

  • Skilled in AutoCAD and Civil 3D

  • Ability to travel occasionally (once per month or less)

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Minimum of 2+ years of electromechanical troubleshooting or testing experience Experience writing scripts using LabVIEW, Python or MATLAB Experience troubleshooting or testing electromechanical products Experience with Linux command line Familiarity with ethernet and/or CAN communication protocols Experience and working knowledge of common test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electric load, current sensors, si
