Job Description
He aha te tranga - About the role:
Our Community Education team empowers young people with essential life skills helping them build confidence in first aid and mental wellbeing. As a Community Educator youll visit schools and early childhood centres across the wider Bay of Plenty area delivering engaging high-energy sessions that inspire tamariki to look after themselves and others.
- 3 days per week (24h) permanent part-time programme delivery occurs during school hours while planning and admin can be done at times that suit you
- Tauranga or Rotorua based travel required across Bay of Plenty
- Work-use car provided
- $29 per hour
- Start date 15 September 2025
This role will predominantly deliver two distinct education programmes which serve different but equally vital purposes (along with supporting our other programmes when required). - Whtuia te Waiora (Weaving Wellbeing) - a mental health module for Year 5-8 students
- Poipoia te Pitomata - a flexible programme that looks at the potential of our rangatahi (youth) nurturing them to grow as future rangatira (leaders) in their whanau and community
With both curricula already designed your role is to bring them to life! Youll create an engaging learning environment adapting your approach to different age groups and learning styles.

- Loves working with young people and can engage them in a meaningful way
- Has an understanding of diverse cultures and learning styles
- Can adapt teaching methods to suit different age groups and needs
- Is well-organised with great time management skills
- Self starter
- Holds a full clean NZ drivers licence
- Has a genuine passion for empowering tamariki
A basic knowledge of Te Reo Mori is highly desirable but not essential.

What happens during school holidays
You have flexibility! Options include:
- Running sessions for early childhood education (ECE) or holiday programmes
- Taking annual leave and/or
- Opting for leave without pay.
Well work with you to find the best fit for your needs.
How much admin is involved
Approximately 20% of your role will be admin-related.
Who books the education sessions
Initially well handle bookings while you settle in. Once comfortable youll take the lead in reaching out to schools/kura and building new relationships.
