The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The DOC seeks to recruit two Wellness Coordinators to support the Departments Correction Assistance Response for Employees (C.A.R.E.) Unit. In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Director of the C.A.R.E. Unit Wellness Coordinators will manage and monitor the operation of the central desk for the unit. The Program Coordinators responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
-Design health and wellness programs & resources.
-Organize educational events workshops and seminars that promote mental physical
financial and emotional well-being.
-Collaborate with healthcare professionals to expand service offerings and ensure continuity of care.
-Represent the C.A.R.E. Unit at wellness-related events serving as an ambassador of the units mission.
-Direct contact with members of service uniform and non-uniform who report to the unit to seek
direct services support or the utilization of amenities within the Wellness Center.
-Provide information guidance and respond to questions relevant to services afforded by members
of the C.A.R.E. Unit. Provide referrals to internal and external stakeholders.
-Will maintain data & the tracking system developed and utilized to track visits seminars workshops
and events sponsored by the unit. Will adapt the successes or challenges of different
wellness programs.
-Work with the DOCs Grant Unit to secure additional wellness resources and track grant outcomes.
-Create one-on-one or staff-specific programs.
-Attend wellness events and act as ambassador.
-Prepare and conduct presentations to internal and external audiences.
-Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Preferred Skills
-Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint Word Excel Outlook etc.) proficiency;
-Proven experience in program coordination health promotion or wellness-related roles;
-Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
-Ability to establish positive working relationships with multiple units and different levels of staff;
-Excellent writing communication inter-personal analytical research problem-solving
and organizational skills;
-Experience working in a correctional or public safety environment is a plus but not required.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
