What youd be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think thats all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things youll be working on when you start but this will likely evolve.
At the moment this role is focused on:
Leading a high-performing team of 10 engineers within the Editing Core group including senior and staff-level engineers
Collaborating with product and technical leads to drive critical architecture improvements across the Canva Editor
Owning and executing large cross-functional engineering initiatives that impact the entire editing experience
Scaling the teams capability through coaching mentoring and fostering technical excellence
Shaping the future of collaborative editing offline functionality and performance across Canvas editing architecture
Influencing roadmap planning and aligning technical goals with broader company strategy
Youre probably a match if:
Youve previously led high-impact technical teams and coached engineers at various stages of their careers
You bring deep frontend or architectural experience and understand the nuances of performance scalability and maintainability
Youre comfortable navigating ambiguity connecting dots across teams and making bold technical decisions
Youve partnered closely with product managers and tech leads to drive results
You champion collaboration and are passionate about helping others succeed
You thrive in a fast-moving environment and are excited to shape foundational systems that empower teams across Canva
About the team
The Editing Core team is on a mission to scale the foundational building blocks of the Canva Editor. Were the team behind some of the most critical parts of Canvas product from document schema and selection logic to real-time collaboration and offline editing. We enable Canvas magic by building reliable performant and scalable systems that other teams depend on to innovate with confidence and speed.
About the role
Were looking for a senior manager who is not afraid to jump into the complex space that is the core Editor architecture. Youll be managing a senior team of engineers to improve and evolve the foundational pieces that make up the Canva Editor. We are often brought early into some of the amazing initiatives that are happening across the company so youll get a chance to shape these from the core up.
We are seeking someone who wants to be in the thick of it - working across technical design code architecture hiring engagement with key stakeholders across the business and professional growth and development of the people they lead.
