Job Description

Position:

Instructional Aide Student Success Specialist (7 hours per day/10 months)

The Opportunity:

The role of student success specialist is unique and multi-faceted. The primary goal of the position is to support students in their growth and development as young scholars. The specifics of the role include:

  • Supporting individual student behavior development plans under the direction of the school social workers and Social Emotional Support Team (SEST)
  • Guiding students in restorative processes including tier 3 restorative circles when appropriate
  • De-escalating students who are experiencing big feelings or upset
  • Helping to create a positive and supportive environment throughout the school
  • Supporting a positive and productive recess and lunch climate and environment
  • Collaborating with caregivers and Haggerty educators

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Instructional Aide Student Success Specialist you will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Associates degree/48 college credits or higher
  • At least 2 years experience working with children
  • Experience talking with families about their childrens growth at school
  • Strong communication skillswith both families and children
  • Ability to maintain calm in the face of challenging behaviors and situations
  • Ability to de-escalate situations with adults and children
  • Computer literacy including email Google Docs etc.
  • Previous experiences working with students in a diverse urban setting preferred
  • Ability to speak a language other than English is highly desirable

Preferred skills/experience:

  • Restorative Circles and Restorative Practices
  • Safety Care Trained
  • Experience in understanding the functions of behavior
  • Observation and other data collection experience
