Description

Position Summary:

The Coordinator of International Affairs serves as a key resource for international students and scholars providing advising and education on topics such as visa processes employment travel and financial management. The coordinator ensures compliance with federal student and scholarly exchange visa regulations while fostering a supportive environment for international students at Asbury Theological Seminary.

Essential Functions:

  1. Advising & Compliance
    • Guide international students and scholars on visa applications maintenance of F-1/J-1 status employment authorization travel requirements and financial documentation.
    • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to create maintain and update student and scholar records in SEVIS.
    • Assists the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) with recertification and redesignation of F-1 and J-1 programs on the Wilmore KY campus.
    • Ensure compliance with federal regulations by reviewing and processing financial certification documents for I-20s and DS-2019s.
  2. Immigration Documentation & Processes
    • Prepare and process immigration-related documents including I-20s DS-2019s school transfers extensions of stay reinstatements change of status visa support letters drivers license letters family invitations and more.
    • Advise and assist international visitors entering on B visas including providing invitation letters for visa appointments.
    • Maintain current knowledge of U.S. immigration laws Department of Homeland Security policies and federal regulations affecting students scholars and visiting professors.
  3. Collaboration and Outreach
    • Work closely with faculty staff and administration to provide guidance on international student/scholar issues and regulations.
    • Maintain relationships with immigration attorneys NAFSA members personnel Kentucky congressional offices and USCIS district officers.
    • Collaborate with other Asbury Seminary departments to address any issues that are affecting international students.
  4. Workshops & Student Support
    • Organize international student workshops on Optional Practical Training (OPT) Curricular Practical Training (CPT) income tax preparation and other relevant topics.
    • Provide standard information on Social Security Administration processes full-time enrollment requirements employment eligibility drivers licenses etc.
    • Develop and maintain informational materials including procedural guides forms and the International section of the Asbury Theological Seminary website.
  5. Administrative Responsibilities
    • Ensure accurate SEVIS and Campus Nexus record-keeping.
    • Complete required documentation registration and training for additional DSOs and AROs.
    • Maintain and update the ATS International Affairs Policy Manual.
  6. Institutional Engagement & Workplace Priorities
    • All full-time employees are required to attend semi-annual training events (e.g. Asbury CARES) as part of their professional responsibilities.
    • Employees must arrange their schedules to ensure availability for all mandatory meetings and institutional events.
    • Full-time employees who are also enrolled in courses must prioritize their work responsibilities over academic coursework during scheduled work hours.
    • Employees are expected to actively participate in institutional discussions and engagement opportunities that support collaboration and department-wide goals.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Registrar

  2. Strong organizational skills communication skills analytical skills and attention to details.
  3. Strong customer service focus with a heart to serve students
  4. Experience with computerized integrated systems

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred
  2. Experience working in a cross-cultural setting; international experience preferred
  3. Knowledge of federal regulations and policies in regards to international students
  4. Experience in immigration services or other closely related fields
