Job Description

The Central Falls School District seeks an innovative caring and bold leader with deep knowledge of elementary education and of elementary age students. This is an opportunity to lead an urban school that will result in improved student outcomes and growing a professional learning culture. The District is reversing historical patterns of inequities challenging the status quo disrupting practices that are tied to traditional arrangements that lead to low expectations and stagnant achievement and to rewrite the narrative about education in Central Falls. We are looking for a transformational leader to see the incredible possibilities of Veterans and partner with the community to support Veterans to earn 3 4 or 5 stars on the RIDE Report Card in the years :The primary role of the Principal at Veterans is to ensure that all students are receiving a great education. The principal will lead with urgency a school of 450 students in grades K-4 and will supervise and work closely with a school team of close to 100 teachers teacher assistants and support staff in order to ensure alignment across the schools academic/instructional operational and cultural will include but not be limited to the following:Building a positive school culture for staff students and familiesMaintain budget aligned to goals and prioritiesUse data to prioritize and progress monitor towards goalsDesign systems to ensure the school operates smoothly and expectations are adhered toCommunicate clearly and frequently to ensure all stakeholders have the information they need to be as LEA for IEP meetings 504 meetings special education referral processEnsure the strong implementation of district adopted high quality curriculum and aligned formative and summative assessmentsDesign coordinate and facilitate professional development based on the goals of the school and district as well as the professional learning needs of staff with the districts Chief Academic Officer Build and lead a team of administrators support staff and teacher and monitor accountability systems and evaluation rubrics and leverage data to inform strategic directionCollaborate with district administrators to develop instructional programs and implement reform models designed to improve the achievement of all studentsOversee the allocation of materials and staff resources for academic departments ensure their use for the purposes intended and enforce appropriate accountability for disbursements and expendituresEnsure compliance with district state regulations and policies in monitoring assessment and reporting for all academic operations and safety programEssential Skills and Competencies for Superior Performance:Instructional Knowledge and Expertise:Proven ability to develop and deliver programming that drives improved academic performances; knows effective practice for differentiating instruction for English language learners students in need of intervention and students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP)Deep understanding of curricular frameworks pedagogy and quality classroom materials; experience in developing educator skills to effectively implement curriculum and implementing curriculumStrong knowledge of high-quality instructional practices and the ability to lead others to implement these practices consistently across classroomsEmpathy and commitment to cause:Deep understanding of the urban school system environment and commitment to improving student achievementDemonstrates an understanding of social-emotional learning and networks of supportsPassionately believes that all students can achieve at high levelsDemonstrates cultural competence and a deep understanding of and empathy for issues facing urban familiesKnowledge of and experience with Restorative interpersonal and team skills:Builds and maintains strong relationships and school cultureWorks successfully alone or on a teamStrong verbal and written communication skills; tailors message for the audience context and mode of communicationActively listens to others and able to effectively interpret others motivations and perceptionsBuilds consensus and resolves conflicts; exhibits willingness to have difficult conversationsSkillfully navigates existing political structures/systemsProblem solving and systems thinking:Understands how various systems/departments interact to achieve the long-term goalMakes decisions using data and technologyTakes initiative to solve problems and create stakeholder buy-inIdentifies and prioritizes mission-critical issues with alignment of people time and resourcesExhibits strong focus on goals and results.
