Job Description

Menzies School of Health Research is seeking an experienced and driven Genomic Epidemiologist and Modeller to join our Global and Tropical Health Division. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to world-class research aimed at accelerating malaria elimination across the Asia-Pacific and the Americas.

The Role:

You will lead the development of analytical frameworks combining molecular and epidemiological data to model Plasmodium transmission chains particularly in low endemic and outbreak-prone settings. The role involves working closely with global collaborators including Harvard University and over 20 endemic country partners.

You will support the implementation of molecular surveillance tools co-supervise junior researchers and postgraduate students lead publications and play a key role in securing competitive research funding.

About you:

As a motivated individual you will lead the data analysis and manuscript preparation coupled with strong communication skills that allow you to demonstrate supportive and collaborative leadership skills with students and researchers and the ability to build productive relationships with collaborators.

You also have:

  • PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualification in a relevant field with a record of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Strong proficiency in programming (e.g. R Python).
  • Experience with genomic data analysis and Bayesian inference frameworks.
  • A strong publication record and experience supervising students or junior researchers.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in diverse multidisciplinary teams.

The benefits:

Base salary $132508-$151412 per annum (Total remuneration package including superannuation $161252 to $184437 per annum).

Generous leave provisions including 6 weeks annual leave (pro rata if part-time).

Salary packaging up to $15900 per annum and $2650 meal and entertainment card tax free.
