Job Description

We are currently seeking a Director for the TRIO Upward Bound who will advance the institutions proud tradition of excellence in academics student life and community service. Come be a part of the Mosaic of HCC.

SUMMARY

Coordinate all activities related to the continued operation of the Upward Bound Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Supervise and manage all general activities of Upward Bound and carry out program policy as established in the federal guidelines;
  2. Manage all budgetary activities at the program level;
  3. Manage documentation of confidential records of Upward Bound students;
  4. Supervise full-time staff part-time instructional personnel and part-time tutors;
  5. Establish a comprehensive needs assessment system;
  6. Coordinate cultural enrichment activities;
  7. Coordinate health services programs;
  8. Plan a six-week summer program for Upward Bound participants in grades 0-12 and a bridge program for Upward Bound graduates;
  9. Assist in conducting follow-up study of Upward Bound students (data collection continuous program evaluation and writing research proposal);
  10. Assist with home visits;
  11. Assist with individualized counseling;
  12. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with personnel from local high school community agencies and other TRIO programs in the Houston area; and
  13. Keep a daily log of all program activities performed each day; submits summary of activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education experience knowledge skills and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION

Masters degree in a related field of study required.

EXPERIENCE

Four years of full-time professional education and/or student services work experience including development implementation and management of a similar educational program; Two years of student advising experience.

Proposal writing experience required.

Program development experience at the college level preferred.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Familiarity with Education Department General Administration Regulations (EDGAR);
  2. Skill in budget management;
  3. Strong oral and written communication skills; and
  4. Work Hours for the Academic Program Year (Subject to Change):
    • September through May work hours will be Tuesday Saturday
    • June July and August work hours will be Monday Friday
