Job Description

FEE 3s lead their teams software development often working with peers on related teams. They deliver working software systems consisting of multiple features spanning the full software lifecycle including technical design implementation testing deployment and maintenance strategy. They work with stakeholders to create or evolve processes for the team to propose UX provide feedback recommend improvements and give voice to engineering considerations. They drive UX outcomes which will scale as their software or product grows. The problems they solve do not start with a defined technology strategy and often have conflicting constraints. They have expertise in many aspects of front-end engineering including but not limited to rendering performance accessibility security and browser/device compatibility. They are familiar with front-end technology trends and apply them judiciously. While they often do not design every feature themselves they review others work to ensure it fits into the bigger picture and is well designed extensible accessible performant and secure.
FEE 3s code contributions demonstrate best practices which others emulate and continue to be high-quality (See FAQ 6 for the definition of the Amazon Code Bar). They take on projects where the business direction is understood but the technology strategy is not. They balance constraints limiting short-term workarounds and focusing on future extension. They influence and drive consensus between design engineering and product owners. They ensure the results of their deliveries is measurable.
FEE 3s are beginning to solve problems through the use of non-technical solutions such as UX design patterns process improvement culture changes or staffing and training. They ensure that their team has good operational practices with the correct alarms telemetry runbooks and retrospective/COE processes. When disagreements arise they lead inclusive constructive dialog with team members and related teams. They ensure their team grows by training recruiting assessing and providing career guidance to members of their team.

You lead projects that require the work of multiple engineers.
You own team architecture providing a system-wide view and design guidance. You are a key influencer in team strategy and goals.
You bring perspective and context for current technology choices and guide future technology choices.

You identify areas within the UX that might be roadblocks for customers and influence stakeholders to improve the UX. This includes but is not limited to issues around accessibility security and performance.

You work on problems where the customer case is defined but the technology strategy may not yet be defined.
You work to clearly understand the problems youre solving before moving on to solutions. You drive productive discussions with customers peers and stakeholders such as designers and product managers.
You understand the business impact of your systems and show good judgment when making technical trade-offs between your teams short and long-term needs.
You understand that many problems are not new and explore re-use or extending existing solutions first.
Technical Complexity
You work on problems with multiple risks and roadblocks using solutions that are as simple as possible both directly through others on your team as well as the product requirements. You develop an understanding of these problems in a way that lets you explain them to others in simple concise terms.
Where your work involves other teams with their own priorities you create the right checkpoints to ensure a successful delivery.
You enable your team to rapidly solve difficult UX problems through either visual or architectural design patterns and effective collaboration with design and product teams.

You set a culture of robust software development. Your personal coding practices are exemplary in terms of code organization clarity accessibility simplicity error handling and documentation.
You make existing systems and solutions simpler.

Impact
Your work prioritizes long-term results including software quality business requirements customer experience and maintainability of both your teams and related teams product(s).
You consider where each system is at in its lifecycle and where to appropriately and proactively fix architecture and UX deficiencies.
You work to resolve the root cause of endemic problems including areas where your team limits the innovation of other teams. This may require you to influence software decisions made by other teams.
Your team is stronger because of your presence but does not depend upon your presence to be successful.

The team is based out of SEA and SJC so you will whiteboard ideas with Sr. SDEs and PEs and come up with proof-of-concepts to showcase what is possible.

- 4 years of non-internship professional front end web or mobile software development using JavaScript HTML and CSS experience
- 5 years of front-end developer creating prototypes or wire-frames for enterprise web applications or workflows experience
- Experience developing with MVC/MVM frameworks (e.g. AngularJS Vue)

- Knowledge of web services technologies such as SOAP HTTP WSDL XSD and REST
- Experience in a broad range of software design approaches and common UX patterns.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
