Job Summary
The Director Regulatory Affairs is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of regulatory compliance advocacy and strategic engagement with regulatory bodies. This position ensures that nuclear power plants comply with all regulatory requirements while also developing and promulgating the organizations long-term strategy for regulatory matters.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining the license to operate driving regulatory strategy and managing complex interactions with Nuclear Regulatory Commissioners.
The selected candidate can be based out of one of Vistras Nuclear sites in OH PA or TX (or our Downtown Operations Center in Akron Ohio).
Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
- Develop and implement regulatory strategies that align with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that nuclear facilities and operations are in full compliance with regulatory standards such as the Atomic Energy Act the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and various industry-specific safety and environmental standards.
- Work closely with senior leadership to integrate regulatory considerations into long-term business strategy including nuclear plant construction upgrades or decommissioning.
- Lead mentor and develop a team of regulatory affairs professionals fostering a culture of accountability compliance and continuous learning.
- Ensure the team is up to date on regulatory developments and industry best practices providing training and professional development opportunities.
- Identify assess and mitigate regulatory risks related to the licensing operation and shutdown of nuclear plants.
Education Experience & Skill Requirements:
- Bachelors degree (minimum) Masters or advanced degree preferred (e.g. Nuclear Engineering Regulatory Affairs Environmental Science Law).
- 15 years in nuclear power industry with 10 years in regulatory affairs including leadership experience in managing teams and projects and specific regulatory experience with NRC or equivalent bodies.
