This role supports the Agronomic Sciences Team to perform field trial efforts at Simplot Plant Sciences where the goal is to genetically improve potato and other crops through biotechnology and breeding. Requires a highly passionate and driven individual to work in conjunction with R&D to design manage analyze and summarize proof-of-concept research trials. The candidate would have experience in applied agricultural science plant phenotyping and statistical methods. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently with a positive attitude and with minimal supervision communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and actively participate in technical discussions and meetings. A demonstrated competency in crop research and an understanding of molecular biology/plant biotechnology concepts is required.
Design execute and summarize field trialing results of new genetic traits in potato.
Collect and utilize diverse phenotypic datasets to extract meaningful insights on trait performance and genetic mode of action.
Understand and ascertain hypothesized mode-of-action of new genetic strategies through literature review and collaboration with R&D scientists.
Analyze and interpret and present large datasets before internal and external stakeholders.
Serve as a project manager or leader of team members supporting research trialing efforts.
Write detailed protocols and coordinate data collection and organization through others.
Become proficient with Biotechnology Quality Management Systems (BQMS) and other in-house quality management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and the tracking and containment of regulated material.
Assist with seasonal team operations including seed preparation planting harvesting and grading.
Masters degree or Bachelors with 3-5 years of relevant industry experience in agronomy biotechnology molecular biology or related field.
Valid Idaho drivers license and willingness to occasionally travel and work off-site. The applicant must be able to lift 50 pounds.
