Job Description

JOB LOCATION:Pre-K Counts program at the Berwick Area High School.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The Pre-K Counts Teacher reports to the Pre-K Counts Program Supervisor and in their absence to the Director of Early Childhood Education.

JOB DEFINITION: In a center-based early childhood classroom the Pre-K Counts Teacher is responsible for managing all aspects of services planning coordination recordkeeping problem solving and communication to ensure delivery of a quality early childhood education program in compliance with all applicable regulations for enrolled children and families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan and supervise classroom activities implementing a program that carries out the education plan as it relates to the Pennsylvania Learning Standards for Early Education.
  2. Collaborates with instructional staff other school personnel parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of students outcomes achieving established classroom objectives.
  3. Monitor observe and direct teaching assistants.
  4. Assist in coordination of any transition activities for assigned children.
  5. Keep abreast of current information regarding preschool education and regulations through professional reading conferences in-services and training sessions.
  6. Assist in staff development by providing and participating in staff in-services and by staying abreast of CSIU State and Federal policies and procedures.
  7. Maintain health and safety standards in the classroom.
  8. Using appropriate educational and developmental assessments assesses student progress toward objectives expectations and /or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students parents and CSIU staff.
  9. Make sure all necessary records are maintained.
  10. Schedule parent teacher conferences in the classroom or in the home.
  11. Use computer for program record keeping and communication.
  12. Be responsible for the coordination of the center facility including maintenance of center equipment and supplies.
  13. Model conversations manners clean up activities listening skills etc. for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
  14. Maintain professional code of conduct and confidentiality.
  15. Participate in the development and use of integrated developmentally appropriate and comprehensive curriculum plans that promote the social physical and cognitive development of preschool children.
  16. Perform Safe Crisis Management in the event students pose harm to themselves or others.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or designee.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • A Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or Education is required.
  • A valid Pennsylvania teacher certification in Early Childhood N-3 or Grades Pre-K-4 required.
  • Must have an interest in and concern for children and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to accept cultural diversity.
  • Flexibility to accommodate a changing caseload and ability to cope with stressful situations and present a professional attitude.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current approved Act 34 (PA State Police) Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015).
  • Current approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three (3) hours training every five (5) years.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Maintain PDE certification requirements of Act 48 hours for the Professional Education Records Management System (PERMS) specific five (5) year periods.
  2. Attend training seminars and in-service programs identified as important to the operation of the instructional program.
  3. Continued training in First Aid and CPR as required.
  4. Maintain certification in pre-school Safe Crisis Management or Safety Care.
  5. Attend some evening events/activities as appropriate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to assist children with self-help skills.
  • Sedentary: Able to sit for extended periods of time occasional walking standing (as necessary) and able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Must be able to squat bend kneel bend crawl and sit on floor frequently and continuously.
  • Dexterity: Finger movements (computer keyboard calculator) eye-hand coordination (office equipment etc.).
  • Audio-Visual Requirements: Within normal range with or without correction.
  • Is able to move throughout all buildings floors and grounds.
  • Worksite Environment: Primarily indoors-office setting with occasional exposure to outdoor elements/climate during the day.
  • Mental demands: Steady response to unpredictable situations ability to remain calm and productive during stressful situations. Demonstrates independent judgment discretion and is able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to various work site locations and meetings as needed.

TIME AND SITE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. This is a full time exempt position working 188 days per year; 7.5 hours per day which at times could include several evening hours; five days per week.
  2. Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.

  1. All property including intellectual property materials equipment or actual products and services developed or accrued as part of the job duties and responsibilities listed above is the property of the CSIU. It may not be used for personal profit or gain and will be relinquished to the CSIU upon termination of employment from the CSIU.
  2. The person employed in this position shall maintain confidentiality with regard to the personal and private information about clients and coworkers programs and services and any other proprietary information accrued as a result of CSIU employment or as required by state or federal laws and regulations.
  3. The person employed in this position must adhere to all requirements identified in the code of professionalism entitled Ambassadors Are Professionals Too and CSIU Administrative Regulation 317-AR-1 CSIU Service Standards.
