Description
Responsible for assisting with mental health concerns behavioral concerns positive behavioral support academic and classroom support consultation with teachers parents and administrators as well as provide individual and group counseling/therapy
Related Services:
- Participates in special education assessment as well as individual educational planning meetings.
- Works with those problems in a childs living situation that effect the childs adjustment in school (home school and community)
- Counseling (group individual and/or family).
- Mobilize family school and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program
- Assists in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies.
Services to Students:
- Provides crisis intervention
- Develops intervention strategies to increase academic success
- Assists with conflict resolution and anger management
- Helps the child develop appropriate social interaction skills
- Assists the child in understanding and accepting self and others.
Services to Parents/Families:
- Interviews the family to assess problems affecting the childs educational adjustment
- Works with parents to facilitate their support in their childrens school adjustment
- Alleviates family stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school and community
- Assists parents to access programs available to students with special needs
- Assists parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources
Services to School Personnel:
- Provides staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural societal economic familial health etc.)
- Assesses students with mental health concerns
- Develops staff in-service training programs
- Assists teachers with behavior management
- Provides direct support to staff
School-Community Liaison:
- Obtains and coordinates community resources to meet students needs
- Helps school districts receive adequate support from social and mental health agencies
- Advocates for new and improved community/school service to meet the needs of students and families
- Helps the system respond effectively to each childs needs

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
In an eight-hour workday the employee must sit stand or walk for varying lengths in order to deliver instruction and properly supervise students throughout the school building as required. Employees job requires occasional reaching above the shoulder to write on a chalkboard. Job requires occasional bending/stooping or squatting/crouching to interact with students at their desks on the floor or at eye level. Job requires occasional carrying/lifting up to ten pounds to transport instructional materials to the classroom from other parts of the building.
