About Shady Hill School Auxiliary Programs: Shady Hill Auxiliary Programs is seeking dedicated and engaging educators to join our dynamic childcare team. For 100 years Shady Hill has been a leader in progressive elementary education and our Afterschool program and other Auxiliary offerings are an essential part of that mission. We provide Shady Hill students the freedom to make developmentally appropriate activity choices encourage them to try new things celebrate growth and progress and foster enriching multi-age friendships in a diverse and inclusive community setting. We also oversee a lot of joyful active recess play!
About the positions: We have 3 part-time Lower School Afterschool Teacher positions open for the 2025-2026 school year ranging from 24 to 30 hours per week. All 3 positions are eligible for benefits (including health insurance and employer retirement plan contributions) and paid hours during school-year holidays. Lower School Afterschool Teachers care for students from Beginners (Pre-K) through 5th Grade in both Extended Day (until 3pm) and Afterschool (until 5:45pm) programming and during occasional Fun Camp and Professional Development Days. Additional hours may be available to provide school-day subbing support on an occasional basis. These are part-time in-person positions beginning in late August 2025 and ending in June 2026. 1. Afterschool and Beginners Extended Day Teacher (24 hours per week)Hours: 1:15pm - 5:45pm Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday 11:45am - 5:45pm Wednesday
Age Range: Beginners (pre-K) through 5th Grade students
Description: This position works in the afternoon program with Beginners or Kindergarten students and Auxiliary Programs colleagues until 2:45 pm on Monday Wednesdays and Fridays. From 2:45 pm - 5:45pm each day this position prepares for and provides Afterschool programming and supervision primarily to students in 3rd 4th and 5th grade. Tuesdays and Thursdays are planning and staff meeting days respectively before the start of the Afterschool program.
2. Afterschool and Beginners Support Teacher (30 hours per week) Hours: 11:45am - 5:45pm Monday through Friday
Age Range: Beginners (Pre-K) and Kindergarten students
Description: This position assists the Beginners classroom teachers with lunch coverage and then works in the afternoon program with Beginners or Kindergarten students and Auxiliary Program colleagues until 2:45 pm Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. From 2:45 pm - 5:45pm each day this position prepares for and provides Afterschool programming and supervision primarily to Beginners and Kindergarten students. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:15-2:45 PM are activity planning and staff meeting days respectively before the start of the Afterschool program.
3. Afterschool and Beginners Extended Day Teacher (24 hours per week) Hours: 1:15pm - 5:45pm Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday 11:45am - 5:45pm Wednesday
Age Range: Beginners (pre-K) and Kindergarten students
Description: This position works in the afternoon program with Beginners or Kindergarten students and Auxiliary Programs colleagues until 2:45 pm on Mondays and Fridays and Wednesdays. From 2:45 pm - 5:45pm each day this position prepares for and provides Afterschool programming and supervision primarily to Beginners and Kindergarten students. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:15-2:45 PM are activity planning and staff meeting days respectively before the start of the Afterschool program.
Primary Responsibilities: - Monitor student attendance and sign-outs using SchoolPass attendance software keep track of student movements across various transition times and activity choices
- Plan develop and implement engaging activity options for students in both Extended Day and Afterschool
- Work in the Extended Day program for Kindergarten on Wednesdays including supervising lunch time rest time and in-classroom and outdoor activities
- Distribute healthy snack options and establish responsible student clean-up routines
- Engage with students in active recess play and joyful indoor games and craft times
- Support healthy homeworks habits
- Collaborate with Auxiliary Programs colleagues and classroom teachers as needed
- Ensure the safety and well-being of each student
- Care for and maintain school spaces equipment supplies and property of the program
- Observe all rules and regulations of Shady Hill School
- Other duties as assigned
