Starting salary for this position is negotiable within the anticipated target hiring range ($86000 to $98000) and will be offered at a level consistent with the relevant experience and qualifications of the candidate. Job Functions
What you will do with us:
Manage graphic design requests and assign projects to staff; manage project timelines and budgets ensuring timely delivery within scope while upholding high standards for visual presentation.
Develop and implement creative concepts and visual designs for various communications collateral (print and digital) consistent with the Citys values and brand including but not limited to signs guides and directories documents business cards stationery logos forms reports programs manuals brochures fliers newsletters novelty items advertisements infographics animated graphics and other materials.
Consult with staff on communications and marketing projects and other needs; work collaboratively with publication authors or contributors to define project requirements; provide guidance on design strategies the application of brand guidelines and best processes and procedures to realize the optimal final product.
Maintain and evolve the Citys visual identity and branding guidelines; ensure brand compliance across City departments and divisions.
Assist with developing and implementing design strategies that align with the organizations branding and communication goals.
Plan and format projects as appropriate for final print and digital output; prepare edit and proofread text.
Supervise and evaluate graphic design and other staff as assigned.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that all visual communications align with organizational goals are ADA-compliant and resonate with diverse audiences to enhance public engagement and foster a positive perception of City services through innovative design solutions.
Participate in budget development and monitor budget of assigned areas.
Manage accounts for stock images and other graphic inventory purchases.
Perform research and solicit bids from print vendors; coordinate with print vendors as needed and review and approve proofs.
Provide training on graphic design software as needed.
Provide outstanding service pursue continuous improvement and exceed expectations.
Bachelors Degree in graphic design media/graphic arts visual communication or related field.
At least 5 years of relevant experience in graphics or design including at least 3 years of experience in a supervisory role.
Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite including Illustrator InDesign and Photoshop and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent interpersonal outreach marketing communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
Demonstrated ability to design develop and prepare accurate and visually appealing materials from notes sketches research and verbal or written direction.
Extremely organized with strong project staff resource and time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines and shift gears seamlessly when priorities change.
Excellent command of the English language including grammar spelling and punctuation; attentive to detail with excellent proofreading and editing skills.
Solid understanding of marketing production website design product packaging advertisement and multimedia design.

This is a full-time salaried exempt position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week (not eligible for overtime compensation under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Citys personnel regulations). The position can accommodate some remote work (at the discretion of the Department Director). Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.
The successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation. Each employee as a condition of their employment may be required to participate in pre-employment and reasonable suspicion testing.
