Position Summary:
The Entrepreneur in Residence(EIR) will serve as a corporate relations officer and is responsible for establishing and maintaining partnerships between Gulf Coast Consortia its NIH-funded program called the Gulf Coast Consortium Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub (GCC REACH) and industrial sponsors innovation facilitators and faculty entrepreneurs from partnering Institutions across Texas. The EIR will work in a team environment to set goals determine actions to achieve these goals and mobilize resources to execute the individual will be challenged to support the translation of early-stage life science innovations into commercially successful products and companies. The EIR will be responsible for developing strategic teams of industry and academic mentors and advisors with expertise that complements the needs of each participating innovator.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
The ideal candidate is a capable people-oriented detail-oriented person with a track record of excellent customer service in a biosciences drug development-related related field. He or she will have experience in commercialization of biosciences products and will represent the program to external stakeholders and develop new partnerships while nurturing and maintaining existing partnerships.
Workplace Requirements:
The office for this position is located in the Texas Medical Center Helix Park TMC3 Collaborative Building 7255 Helix Park Ave. Houston 77030 not on the Rice University campus.
This position is offered as a hybrid role combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. Typically this is 2-3 days/week in the office. PerRice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range:
Annual salary range is $122400 - $124000. This position is funded by a grant. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of funding.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree
- In lieu of the education requirement additional related experience above and beyond what is required on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted.
- 4 years

Skills:
- Ability to develop complex and / or multiple program partnerships and funding sources
- Knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans

Preferences:
Masters degree or PhD in biosciences field or a Masters degree in business is strongly preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Leads the development and implementation of major programs and strategic multi-year business plans
- Collaborates with and advises faculty staff and/or key stakeholders to design programs and establish long range strategic and operational plans
- Identifies and implements program changes to ensure alignment with mission and program effectiveness
- Develops and implements strategies related to outreach events communications development partnerships and fundraising / funding
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the organizational structure and programs to ensure success
- Scouts and recruits early-stage drug development investigators and companies that would be suitable for the GCC REACH program
- Evaluates the commercialization potential of programs applying to the program
- Mentors GCC REACH participants in developing their roadmap for product and company development.
- Assists GCC REACH participants in achieving short-term milestones and setting the course for long-term goals.
- Participates in the recruitment and support of a GCC REACH advisor network comprised of subject matter experts who will support the program and participating companies
- May supervise small staff (up to three full time staff)
- Performs all other duties that are assigned
Additional Functions:
- Develops training curriculum and may teach a course seminar or workshop including integrating program and curriculum into related programs
- Participates in grant preparation and submission
