Job Overview

SNDLs Business Technology Team designs delivers and operates the products and platforms that enable SNDLs profitability and growth. This is your opportunity to apply your leadership experience at an established company in a new & emerging industry. This unique role will provide the incumbent with a broad leadership role in engineering development delivery and operations throughout the corporation in a team-oriented environment with the potential for directly impacting SNDLs results and growth.

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer the Director Engineering is responsible for building and maintaining the critical digital infrastructure that powers our internal operations and customer-facing experiences. This includes productivity-focused internal web applications APIs enabling seamless integration between enterprise systems and the maintenance and evolution of our corporate websites eCommerce and retail Loyalty platforms.

You will provide both strategic and hands-on technical leadership ensuring we deliver robust scalable and secure solutions.

Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead mentor and grow a team of engineers and technical leads.
  • Oversee design development and delivery of internal web applications that support productivity and operational efficiency in retail and supply chain.
  • Architect and maintain scalable API integrations between enterprise platforms (e.g. ERP eCommerce Marketing platforms).
  • Support and evolve public-facing websites and eCommerce platforms ensuring performance uptime security and innovation.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers Data and Analytics Technology Operations and Liquor and Cannabis segment stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions aligned to business priorities.
  • Establish engineering best practices for coding testing deployment and documentation and continuous improvement of the Engineering Experience for modern application development.
  • Evaluate and recommend technology platforms frameworks and tools in line with architectural goals.
  • Manage third-party vendors and development partners where applicable.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related field; Masters degree is a plus.
  • 8 years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a people leadership role.
  • Proven experience with .NET (C#) and Java in enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of full stack development (front-end frameworks like React or Angular RESTful APIs and modern DevOps practices).
  • Demonstrated experience integrating systems via APIs including REST and SOAP with understanding of authentication mechanisms (OAuth2 JWT etc.).
  • Familiarity with Shopify or other modern eCommerce platforms including custom app development or theme work.
  • Experience working in environments that support both internal users and external customers.
  • Excellent communication project management and team-building skills.
