Description

The Vice-President Operations will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all operational activities in New Mexico and Utah ensuring strategic alignment with business goals driving growth profitability and operational role involves maintaining a strong safety culture and fostering a collaborative environment for continuous improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for overseeing the engineering and management of the companys mining operations while ensuring safe operations through the establishment and maintenance of effective safety programs that minimize accidents and industrial hygiene exposure in compliance with MSHA/OSHA.
  • Maintains assets in a safe functional cost-effective manner providing maximum reliability and availability for operations.
  • Participate in the establishment of short and long range business plan in concert with mine production and processing methods.
  • Participate in the preparation management and execution of all capital and operating plans and budgets.
  • Leads the communication effort both within the organization and with customers and the community.
  • Ensures that the work environment complies with all local and national laws and regulations.
  • Apply mining expertise on complex engineering geology and production goals issues and direction. Must take the lead to interpret complex technical information from all areas and select optimal solutions.
  • Use mining expertise to develop and implement process improvement principles and projects.
  • Ensure that proper engineering is followed to effect forecasted production grade tonnage and matching mine plans.
  • Troubleshoot production management and personnel problems.
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects.
  • Assist with and contribute to corporate development strategy and reporting needs.
  • Participation in preparation and presentation of operational information at Intrepid board meetings.
  • Participation in Development and implementation of strategic plans for Mining and Minerals business.
  • Key member of business development team in identification evaluation and execution of acquisition JV etc. opportunities in Minerals and Mining.
  • Foster and develop an enterprise-wide information sharing within Minerals and Mining business.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree in chemical engineering process engineering mining or a related field.
  • MBA or equivalent graduate degree is desired.
  • Fifteen plus years of progressively responsible operating and management experience in the mining industry.
  • At least seven years experience in a responsible operations managerial position.
  • Solution mining and/or process engineering experience are advantageous; should be considered a mining generalist.
  • Prior multi-site leadership expereience required.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel PowerPoint and Word.
  • High attention to detail well organized and good independent judgement.
  • Strong financial aptitude and a focus on driving bottom-line results.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Strong team player with superior organizational managerial communications and interpersonal skills that instill confidence and cooperation with employees at all levels from the boardroom to the mine site.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills with a high degree of accountability professionalism ethics and commitment to a team mentality.
  • Will interact with others in a manner that represents and champions Intrepids values.
  • Highly analytic and strategic with the ability to appreciate the big picture and context and effectively implement the same in practical terms.
  • Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency and an excellent problem solver with the ability to find both traditional and innovative/creative solutions to problems
  • Experience building and managing a strong safety-first organization and will understand mine site technical and operational needs and challenges.
  • Strategic thinker with future orientation and an ability to anticipate adapt and respond quickly to change.
  • Understand and can perform natural resource company valuations including cashflow models and comparative analyses.
  • Equally comfortable in the boardroom and at the mine site.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed indoors in an office environment and outdoors near heavy equipment moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Incumbents must be able to perform work that requires typing reading communicating sitting for prolonged periods of time standing and vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Travel expected up to 50% between Carlsbad NM Moab UT and Wendover UT locations.

  • Is regularly required to walk and climb or balance
  • May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Targeted salary range for this position is $300000 - $350000 annually. Salary commensurate with experience and skill set.
