About this Job
This is a full-time position located at theWedell Williams Museum in Patterson LA.
The mission of the Office of State Museum (OSM) is to collect preserve and present as an education resource objects of art artifacts and the like that reflect the history art and culture of Louisiana for citizens of and visitors to the State of Louisiana.
The Curator 1 2 or 3 for Louisiana State Museums (LSM) performs professional work in support of community programming and curatorial needs at the Louisiana State Museum sites. This position works in conjunction with and is supervised by the Museum Division Director.Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelors degree in museum studies a humanities field historic preservation or fine arts; OR
A bachelors degree in forestry wildlife or natural resource management botany biology or ecology. Job Specification

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Exhibitions & Collections 60%
- Develops overall exhibition plan for the Regional Museums with an emphasis on Wedell-Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum and E.D. White Historic Site updates in consultation with LSM administration and curatorial services staff. Serves as curator in the development and coordination of changing exhibitions at the museums including project management budget development and timelines.
- Conducts gallery inspections and environmental monitoring; reports issues and concerns; makes recommendations for exhibit repairs; and coordinates activities and repairs with vendors in-house maintenance and other curatorial and exhibits staff as needed.
- Works with museum registrars curatorial exhibits and maintenance staff in preparation movement installation and inventory tracking of museum collections and loans.
Scholarship & Education 60%
- Researches exhibition topics and objects with the exhibits. Makes presentations for the public and museum professional conferences and meetings.
- Prepares and presents talks on museum exhibitions; coordinates speakers for regular talks on curatorial and exhibition topics; assists in the development of educational programs.
- Develops or assists in developing and disseminating promotional materials related to the museum exhibits and programming.
Administrative & Museum Support 10%
- Assists the Museum Division Director in preparing reports. They may coordinate and/or supervise volunteers docents and interns assigned to curatorial areas. May take on role as lead worker or project head for curatorial activities.
- Works in support of museum team at museum programs functions and activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Full-time Probational appointment; Permanent status applicants may be required to take a probational appointment.
Career Progression: This position is in a Career Progression Group to a Curator 3. As part of a Career Progression Group vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Curator 1 2 or 3based on the qualifications of the selected applicant.
