Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for aHead Mens Baseball Coach/Athletic Operations Manager position at the Walla Walla campus.

General Description:
This position is the Head Baseball Coach of Walla Walla Community College (WWCC). This position is also responsible for all athletic home game operations sports information reporting and promoting and supports student outreach and recruitment. This position reports directly to the Athletic Director.

The Head Baseball Coach oversees and manages all aspects of the WWCC Baseball Program. These aspects include recruitment and retention of student-athletes budget development and management fundraising components scheduling and management of contests facility management for practices and contests and all other aspects necessary for the operation of a first-class Baseball program.

The Athletic Operations Manager is responsible for organizing and administering game set-up and game take-down plans and maintaining repairing and receiving all athletic sports equipment and athletic garments. This position devises and implements a general plan for the upkeep and safe storage of all athletic equipment working closely with the all head coaches and the Athletic Director. The Athletic Operations Manager ensures that all WWCC Athletic department functions as well as some outside functions are properly prepared for in regard to facility set-up. This position is also responsible for all NWAC and NIRA athletically related reporting and required statistical updates.

This position is the Sports Information Officer (SIO) responsible for the general reporting advertising and promotion of Intercollegiate Athletics at WWCC including accurate overall Athletic Department reporting to the college and local communities.

This position will support Student Services in executing their outreach and recruitment plan by learning and conveying information about the college such as the application process how to become a WWCC student how to access resources to finance college and information about student support services.

Essential Functions:
HEAD MENS BASEBALL COACH

  • In collaboration with the Athletic Director develop a baseball budget that supports a first-class program including scholarship funding travel expenses and goods and services.
  • Manage and operate the Baseball budget.
  • Develop a fundraising system for the Baseball program to enhance the needs of the program.
  • Recruit student-athletes to the Baseball program in adequate numbers conducive to the development of a competitive team
  • Monitor the academic standing and progress of all student-athletes associated with the Baseball program and uphold the student-athlete philosophy as defined by the WWCC Athletic Department.
  • Travel and supervise all Baseball student-athletes at WWCC sponsored Baseball events or external events in which the Baseball program is involved. Be present at all contests and road trips and strictly monitor the behavior of all student-athletes.
  • Enforce and support the WWCC Athletic Department Code of Conduct
  • Promote the team concept as a member of the Athletic Department at WWCC
  • Set up and communicate practice schedule and conduct all practices for Baseball participants. Manage practices in a competitive but productive manner and make certain all student-athletes are properly prepared for competition.
  • Keep current on required CPR and First-Aid training and always maintain current certifications in each.
  • Know and understand all appropriate NWAC rules for competition eligibility requirements and understand the overall NWAC Codebook regarding league operations for all Baseball programs.
  • Attend all coaches meetings and keep updated on all Walla Walla Community College business.
  • Perform any and all other job requirements as assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • In collaborate with Facilities will prepare and maintain baseball field and grounds.

ATHLETIC OPERATIONS
  • Maintain required health safety and security practices in all athletic facilities and game areas.
  • Make certain all athletic facilities are properly prepared for all WWCC athletic events in a timely fashion. Work closely with the head coaches and the Athletic Director to make certain set-up is appropriate. Set-up for functions that take place in our facilities by outside groups must also be a priority.
  • Tear down all facilities set-up at the conclusion of all athletic events or any other appropriate event.
    • Supervise a crew of student workers to help in facility set-up and tear-down. Monitor and evaluate student worker effectiveness ensuring accurate records regarding work hours.
    • Review and approve student time cards in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Be responsible for the overall operation of Athletic Department concessions stands to include set-up stocking operating and staffing. Work with the Athletic Department Program Coordinator in the overall functioning of all concession stands operated by the WWCC Athletic Department.
  • In cooperation with the Executive Director of Facilities and the Athletic Director identify facility needs and maintenance for the athletic department.
  • Repair maintain and keep an updated inventory of all athletic equipment and athletic apparel. The head coach of each sport will be required to work with this position to ensure accuracy of reports and proper upkeep of equipment and apparel.
  • Complete annual inventories with the assistance of each head coach on all athletic equipment and uniforms
  • Organize storage plans for all athletic facility equipment. Facilities equipment must be stored in such a manner that equipment is properly maintained and secured.
  • Operate washers and dryers and upkeep all athletic department uniforms. The head coaches of each sport works with this position to aid in the process. Be accountable for the proper care and cleaning of all uniforms and practice gear.
  • Assign and maintain lockers for student-athletes faculty and staff; hand out and assign locks inventory locks and keep records of combinations and be responsible for general lock maintenance.
  • Assist the Athletic Director in regard to new and improved fundraising outreach opportunities and be involved in all Athletic Department fundraising events that raise dollars for the overall Athletic Department.
    • Carry out the execution of the Athletic Department Signage Program including contacting potential sponsors mounting signs and maintaining annual relationships with sponsors.
  • Assist all head coaches in the set up and execution of our ETEAM Sports fundraising campaign.
  • Be responsible for all NWAC and NIRA athletically related reporting and required statistical updates.

SPORTS INFORMATION OFFICER
  • Support head coaches and the Athletic Director in promoting all WWCC athletic programs within the college the local community and the surrounding area.
  • Work with the College Marketing Director to coordinate and promote WWCC Athletics within the college and the local community when applicable.
  • Create and maintain a positive relationship with all head coaches and all appropriate media sources throughout the local community and the surrounding area.
  • Report significant student-athlete achievement and accomplishments to appropriate media sources to include but not limited to the student-athletes hometown media source.
  • Provide with the assistance of each head coach information regarding Athletic Department alumni to include where student athletes transfer and report any significant performance highlights when appropriate.
  • Write brief updates to WWCC Staff regarding significant accomplishments of Athletic Department personnel Athletic teams and student-athletes.
  • Upload and schedule all games to HUDL and/or Pixolot for live streaming and NWAC requirements.

OUTREACH & RECRUITMENT
  • Support Student Services in recruiting new students to WWCC
  • Represent WWCC at recruitment events locally and outside of the Walla Walla Valley
  • Support prospective students and their families as they navigate becoming a student at WWCC
  • Offer support and appropriate referrals to prospective and current students and others who engage with the Colleges Welcome Center
  • Support outreach and recruitment events (on- and off-campus)
  • Participate in onboarding activities as requested
  • Effectively communicate degree program offerings and on-campus student support services
  • Effectively communicate and assist prospective students and their families in navigating financial aid and scholarship processes
  • Participate in department and other college meetings to further the work of the College and the Outreach efforts

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:
  • This position must supervise student-athletes during practices games and the overall management of an Intercollegiate Athletic Program. Supervise student work crews relating to the Sports Equipment Technician and Facilities Manager responsibilities.

Budget Authority:
  • This position will have budget authority over the colleges Baseball budget as well as the Baseball Programs fundraising budget.

Competencies

  • Know and understand advanced knowledge of the sport of Baseball teaching techniques communication concepts and any other aspects that are imperative for quality teaching of advanced Baseball skills. Keep current on all Baseball skill and teaching innovations in the sport.
  • Understand how to properly train and condition college level Baseball Athletes.
  • Understand all NWAC and Institutional rules and guidelines regarding the administration of a college Baseball Program.
  • Demonstrate an ability to attract high-level Baseball athletes to the Baseball Program.
  • Know how to manage and work within the parameters of the Baseball Programs operational budget.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage the academic progress of the Baseball Program participants.

Qualifications:
Any combination of education experience and/or training that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skills to perform the job may be considered by the college.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in applicable disciplines from an accredited institution.
  • Experience playing and coaching the game of baseball.
  • Experience setting and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in managing and operating a sports program budget.
  • Experience using workplace technologies (Microsoft Office and database programs).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience playing college and coaching college level baseball.
  • Experience working with community outreach regarding coaching and fundraising.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Conditions/Terms of Employment

This position is in a bargaining unit for which AFT is the exclusive representative.

This is a full-time overtime eligible professional position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Official college transcripts required at time of hire. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. The college is a tobacco free institution.

The work environment for this position will be an office setting and out on the field. The physical demands require an ability to perform out in the field teaching and coaching the game of baseball to high-level student-athletes. This contract position work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday 8-hours each day. During the summer work schedule is Monday through Thursday 10-hours each day. Physical demands also include late night travel to and from all baseball road trips. Travel required includes travel to and from all baseball contests on the road as well as reasonable and required travel recruiting student-athletes to the program. Travel may be required for outreach and recruitment activities.

Compensation:
Annual salary range for initial placement based on the represented exempt salary schedule is PR02 Step A-F:$61267-$69318 with scheduled salary increment increases every 12 months until you reach the top of the scale. The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; medical dental life and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
