JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of an assigned supervisor perform routine food preparation activities at an assigned school site or District facility. The Assistant Cook assists with food preparation and serving and may supervise kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Cook. To accomplish these tasks the Assistant Cook must work closely with the staff and administration of USD 506.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands for fine manipulation handle or feel; reach with hands and arms (overhead above the shoulders and horizontally); stand and stoop kneel crouch or crawl and climbing of ladders. The position requires considerable physical effort and is more than 70% of the job functions. The employee is occasionally required to sit climb or balance and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate cleaning tools.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate but occasionally high. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to a variety of cleaning agents and some hazardous chemicals.
The work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures dirt dust fumes and unpleasant odors. The work environment involves some exposure to hazards and physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
While performing the duties of this job the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or illnesses during the course of their duties.
