Job Description

JOB TITLE: Director of Culture and ClimateREPORTS TO: Administrative Director of Positive Youth DevelopmentLOCATION: Worcester Public Schools Worcester Massachusetts POSITION PURPOSE: The Director of Culture and Climate is responsible for leading coordinating and sustaining a districtwide vision for a positive safe inclusive and restorative school culture in all Worcester Public Schools. The Director will oversee the design implementation training and continuous improvement of systemic practices related to school climate restorative justice culturally responsive engagement and equitable discipline practices. This work will focus on ensuring every student family and staff member experiences a sense of belonging and wellbeing in Director will bring deep expertise in the intersection of school culture social emotional health trauma-informed practice and building inclusive systems. They will lead efforts to shift punitive disciplinary models toward proactive supportive and student-centered practices that promote healing accountability and ACCOUNTABILITIES: Lead the strategic development and implementation of a districtwide vision for positive school culture and climate aligned to restorative and trauma-informed and oversee schoolwide systems for culture climate student behavior and relationship-building across all WPS schools in partnership with school leaders and district and support the districts Deans of Students Wellness Room Instructors and Culture and Climate Assistants and any site-based climate staff ensuring consistency and high-quality implementation across school climate and behavior data (e.g. suspensions chronic absenteeism student voice surveys) to identify trends evaluate impact and drive responsive and implement professional learning opportunities for school and district staff focused on restorative practices trauma-responsive approaches and culturally affirming behavior as a thought partner and coach to school leaders to support site-specific culture and climate plans including models for Tier 1 strategies behavior intervention and inclusive implementation of student re-engagement re-entry and wellness-focused practices for students returning from suspension or other exclusionary with the Family and Community Engagement team and community-based organizations to strengthen school-community relationships and ensure culturally relevant as the district liaison on school culture and climate to external agencies including law enforcement youth-serving nonprofits and advocacy leadership and technical assistance to ensure school practices are aligned to the districts equity goals and civil rights with other district offices to align mental health SEL and student wellbeing initiatives with the Worcester Public Schools Strategic Plan and Vision of a the development and sustainability of student leadership and peer-to-peer mentoring programs focused on culture-building and and monitor implementation of restorative responses to student conflict including alternatives to suspension mediation circles and family to the development of policy and procedures that promote equitable inclusive and developmentally appropriate behavior expectations and disciplinary duties as QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Massachusetts DESE certification as Supervisor/Director or Assistant Principal/ Degree from an accredited college or university in education counseling social work or a related of five (5) years of leadership experience in a K12 educational experience with restorative justice student support systems and/or equity-focused QUALIFICATIONS: Principal or district-level leadership experience supporting students with special needs and students learning to speak Albanian Arabic Nepali Portuguese Spanish Vietnamese or an African Language and/or American Sign YEAR: 52 WeeksWORK DAY: 8 hoursSALARY (FY26): $177267
