Created in 2015 to align lighten and modernize infrastructure the Technology & Infrastructure (T & I) team is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. This role requires full-time on-site presence.

Your role

Media Presentation is looking for a supervising technician who can provide specialized technical guidance and support to operating technicians and management primarily during the overnight hours when there is limited support staff.

You will undertake the overall coordination of assigned programs areas or projects in Content Preparation and Presentation. Creative problem-solving is required to resolve operational and technological challenges and to assess and optimize the use of interdepartmental resources. You will on-board and train new technicians and help roll out new technology and workflows. You will often work independently and operate in a variety of Presentation roles as required and should have the ability to prioritize your time effectively.

The overnight supervising technician is assigned to the overnight rotation to provide Presentation support. As a supervising technician you will be scheduled to work on weekends and holidays and may be assigned hours outside of the primary overnight rotation as required operationally. This position is in-person fully on-site.

Key Tasks:

  • Arranges and conducts training for new staff and other technicians as required.
  • Reviews and updates discrepancy reports and quality of experience monitoring tools; troubleshoots found issues and communicates progress with management.
  • Creation of documentation to support the implementation of new equipment and new workflows.
  • Provides assistance and advice on operational requirements in terms of equipment facilities and personnel.
  • Provides assistance and support and can be required to make quick decisions for late programming changes automation issues or equipment failures that would impact our audiences.
  • Within delegated limits plans assigns coordinates and checks the work of assigned staff and reports on matters related to job performance conduct and safety.
  • Performs all or part of the function or duties of equivalent or lower classifications including editing and file delivery.
  • Participates in the implementation of new technology and workflows and the RFP and vendor selection process
  • May attend meetings acting as a representative of Media Presentation and establish constructive relationships with partner departments.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Relevant knowledge and understanding of various broadcast technologies and will stay informed on technological advancements.
  • Superior knowledge and understanding of current broadcasting automation systems a strong understanding of radio and digital audio paths signal processing and transmission in order to troubleshoot issues.
  • Knowledge and good understanding of general Presentation procedures and recovery practices.
  • Proficiency in content presentation systems including automation networking video signal routing.
  • An understanding of computer networking principles protocols and practice including Internet file transfer technologies and methodologies.
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to prioritize independent work and collaboration with our partners in Engineering and Maintenance.
  • Strong technical skills and superior working knowledge of technical functions in the Media Presentation Centre including Presentation Integration Master Control and Traffic.
  • Excellent communication skills -- to be applied both in coordinating the work of staff and reporting and resolving discrepancies and issues as required.
  • Ability to work without direction and conduct ongoing reviews of the operation and operating procedures technical standards and submitting recommendations and implementing improvements.
  • An ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong initiative.
  • Four years related experience.
  • Requires a superior knowledge and understanding of radio television and digital program production and presentation methods.
  • Understanding of how different areas and crafts interrelate.
  • Knowledge generally gained through community college graduation in Radio or Television Broadcast arts courses and relevant professional and/or academic experience.
