Job Description

The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Coordinator Health Promotions. Working as a member of the Health Promotions & Education department you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research education and advocacy.


The person in this role will coordinate implement and evaluate lung health programs throughout the greater North Valley Region in Northern California and surrounding markets and implement the North Valley Rural Tobacco Prevention Project. The Health Promotions Coordinator will work with community members to build community support for policy changes that reduce tobacco use. The coordinator will conduct community needs assessments activities recruit and engage coalition members; create and deliver presentations to community members community organizations and decision-makers; develop educational materials; coordinate events and build and maintain relationships in target jurisdictions to engage local communities in advancing smokefree multi-unit housing and smokefree outdoor spaces policy campaigns in assigned communities. This is a grant funded position.


Location: The position is located at the American Lung Associations Chico California office and will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual work.


Responsibilities:

  • Work in coordination with project team to develop implement and evaluate community engagement and health education programs focused on smokefree environments tobacco prevention and lung health
  • Build support for project efforts in the community by conducting community outreach hosting training engaging community members in coalitions and providing educational opportunities that expand smokefree spaces and other tobacco prevention policies.
  • Effectively set timelines and workplans to ensure completion of project deliverables.
  • Build maintain and cultivate relationships with funders facilitators community members community partners and decision makers to advance program delivery sustainability and growth across the assigned region including American Lung Association programs including Freedom from Smoking Better Breathers Clubs Asthma Basics etc. within assigned territory.
  • Explore opportunities to connect and enhance collaborations throughout the Lung Association
  • Contribute to all progress reports and other required reporting of grant activities.
  • Research and implement best practices for smokefree environments and initiatives within priority populations.
  • Collaborate with supervisor in growing American Lung Association program s with in assign ed territory.
  • Provide support for California program and development events such as lung cancer workshop LUNG FORCE Walk and other related activities.
  • Actively participate in and lead assigned coalitions identified in the North Valley Regional Rural Tobacco Control Project Scope of Work.
  • Participate on national American Lung Association program workgroups and committees as requested.
  • Provide support for annual reports awards grants and other activities assigned. Participate in and support community related programs


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in public health or related field preferred.
  • Some experience in public health or related field.
  • Experience in coalition building and community health development.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Excellent customer service skills: ability to clearly articulate the mission and vision of the ALA.
  • Strong project management skills to research develop and execute specific program deliverables.
  • Strategic in developing/maintaining relationships with medical professionals public health community and members of the public.
  • Computer literate; knowledge using Microsoft programs helpful.
  • Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends with some overnights required. Must have a valid Drivers license.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Consistent with its mission the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace; all employees must abstain from tobacco use in any form including vaping.


Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills experience and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $42500 and $46500 per annum.

  • Paid Leave - 10 vacation days in the first year (15 days thereafter) 2 personal days and 15 sick days per year as well as 12 company-paid holidays per year. We also offer Paid Parental Leave for eligible employees.
