St. John the Evangelist Frederick and St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor Catholic Churches are seeking candidates for a full-time Accountant. The Accountant is responsible for day-to-day management of the Pastorate finances. This includes accounts payable receivables and payroll processing the incoming and outgoing cash of the Parish administering staff payroll and related needs and safeguarding assets through financial analyses and internal control procedures. The Accountant reports to the Finance Manager.
Essential Functions
Financial
- Oversee collection counting process and deposits; schedule and supervise volunteer counting teams
- Process accounts payable weekly including writing checks recording checks and filing the backup documentation
- Process payroll bi-weekly including review of timesheets for accuracy review resulting payroll reports prepare journal entries
- Process annual 1099s for vendors submit to IRS and State
- Prepare various cash financial and payroll reports
- Accountable for parish funds and responsible for meeting deadlines for bill payments and payroll tax payments to avoid penalties and fees
- Assist Finance Manager in the preparation and presentation of annual budgets
- Attend quarterly Finance Council meetings and quarterly Corporator Meetings
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports for Finance Council and Corporators
- Assist with the development and implementation of future Capital Campaigns
Human Resources
- Maintain records of employee benefits such as medical/dental coverage vacation medical leave pension personal leave retirement
- Responsible for the knowledge of salary and benefits administration and communication when necessary to the staff
Administrative
- Ensure compliance with government reporting requirements. Perform administrative tasks to support key responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance contracts for various office equipment
- Facilitate inventory control measures regarding purchasing maintaining and recording inventory
- Research various means of Parish efficiency in spending (i.e. phones supplies)
- Prepare lists for thank-you letters for large contributions new pledges non-monetary donations and memorial contributions
- Maintain account payable payroll and personnel files
- Prepare audit when required
Position Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in accounting preferred and/or significant experience
- Experience in office environment
- Knowledge of proper accounting and internal control procedures
- Knowledge of government compliance and reporting requirements
- Knowledge of requirements for payroll processing and benefits administration
- Knowledge of Quickbooks Online and ability to learn Ultipro Software for payroll processing
- Familiarity with church environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel co-workers subordinates representatives from all levels of church civic organizations business professionals and the general public
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite particularly Excel and Word
- Ability to multi-task
Pay Range: $48000 - 50000 Annualized
