Job Description

This is an exiting opportunity to join the Independent Travel Training Service. Travel trainers support adults and young people with disabilities and/or autism to travel confidently safely and independently across the borough so they can access school further education or day care settings.

The post holder will deliver training (1-1 & small groups) and support trainees travelling on public transport. They will work closely with parents carers and support networks undertake risk assessments to maintain trainee safety and use effective action planning and assessments to achieve independent travel for their caseload.

We have two part time posts available each working 25 hours per week Monday - Friday across the borough. As the role involves supporting adults and young people to travel to school college or day care settings you need to be able to work flexibly including early mornings and/or late afternoons. The hours are likely to be 7am-12noon and/or 2pm-6pm.

Travel trainers support young people and adults to travel safely on public transport independently. You will be working with the trainee and their support network to plan and deliver a bespoke travel training programme. Working peripatetically across the borough you will manage a caseload of trainees and be responsible for their progression throughout the training. Our programmes develops confidence and skills that enable trainees to tackle journeys independently.

We are looking for skilled proactive and flexible individuals who will really make a difference to our customers lives particularly in relation their ability to travel independently. You will offer 1-1 support and small group training to ensure trainees are equipped with all the skills and confidence they need to use a range of transport. You should bring some experience of working with young people and/or adults with special educational needs learning disabilities and/or autism to the role.
