Job Description
MMR Consulting is an engineering and consulting firm specializing in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Its services include Automation Engineering Project Management and Validation. MMR has offices in Canada USA and Asia.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join our growing team where the successful candidate will work with a group of engineers and specialists involved in the engineering and project management of equipment systems and facilities for life sciences facilities. This role is based out of Toronto ON Canada. Some travel to client sites is expected.
This role is for a Junior Controls engineer to work on the automation of building/process controls systems.
Previous building/process controls experience in the processing industries is required (i.e. Nuclear / Chemical Processing / Food / Life Sciences Oil & Gas Car Manufacturing etc.).Pharmaceutical industry experience is a major asset. Building Automation Systems experience is a major asset (even if from another industry such as Institutional / Healthcare etc)
Candidate MUST HAVE IGNITION experience
Responsibilities
- Provide technical solutions into the design commissioning and start-up of automation systems for upgrades renovations and expansions of client facilities and processes.
- Support project execution from Feasibility through to project completion/handover including all project stages such as:
- Feasibility
- Concept Design Basic Design Detailed Design
- Procurement
- Construction
- Project Management
- Service/Support after handover
- The ideal candidate has experience with Siemens APOGEE Series Controllers Allen Bradley (Rockwell) PLC and Ignition SCADA system or similar platforms.
- Experience with Historians is a nice to have but not mandatory
- Experience with building/process controls in processing industries utilities is required (i.e. chemical processing utilities mining nuclear life sciences food etc) however experience in the Pharma industry is a major asset
- Prepare/perform/review electrical drawings such as Panel Drawings wiring diagrams single line drawings.
- Perform program editing / configuration on PLCs work with redundant systems and SCADA systems
- Review programming of equipment vendors and other automation firms
- Perform automation / electrical troubleshooting on electrical panels and control systems
- Travel may be occasionally required for meetings with clients equipment fabrication vendors or Factory Acceptance Testing (FATs).
- Work may require occasional support over shutdowns or extended hours specifically during installation and commissioning / validation phases.
- Client-management (maintain key Client relationships in support of business development and pursuit of new work) project scheduling/budgeting coordination of client and MMR resources for effective project delivery supporting business development (providing technical support to the sales as required for proposals/opportunities) presenting at industry conferences/publishing papers etc.
- Visit construction and installation sites.
- Supervise contractors during critical installations of process equipment and associated utilities.
- Other duties as assigned by client and/or MMR based on workload and project requirements.
Qualifications
- MUST HAVE IGNITION experience
- Excellent written and spoken English is required including the preparation of technical documents in English
- Experience with building/process controls in processing industries utilities is required (i.e. chemical processing utilities mining nuclear life sciences food etc) however experience in the Pharma industry is a major asset and Building Automation system experience is a major asset (even if from another industry such as Institutional / Healthcare etc)
- Years of experience: Minimum 5-10 years of controls experience (we are flexible on either intermediate or senior level candidates)
- Ability to read electrical drawings PLC code.
- Ability to perform programming/configuration of controllers and SCADA systems.
- Possess leadership skills and be able to take initiative to lead projects involving multiple stakeholders departments and varying complexity.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset.
- Knowledge of communication protocols Eth/IP Modbus Bacnet is an asset.
- Knowledge of networking is an asset.
- Engineering degree preferably in Electrical Electromechanical Controls Chemical Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Salary range: 80000$ -120000$ based on experience.

Compensation: Salary starting from 95k/year benefits or higher depending upon individuals experience
The base salary offered will be determined by the successful candidates relevant experience skills and competencies while ensuring internal equity is maintained. Experienced candidates may be offered a higher salary range based on their level of expertise and qualifications.
