Range Explanation:

  • Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience education licenses training and internal equity.

  • Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.

Be a part of a team that keeps Pima County Parks clean and safe. In this position you will assume the construction and concrete role responsible for all outdoor installations design repairs and retrofitting jobs at all Parks and Recreation locations. The construction and concrete role will lead and guide staff working on concrete installation and repair on any facility located within park property to include plan review design and contract management. Candidates must have a willingness to work in the elements and can expect to be outdoors 90% of the time while on duty. You will also lead three or more full-time employees in daily park maintenance activities and operate independently in providing journey-level maintenance repair diagnosis troubleshooting construction fabrication and preventive maintenance in a public park setting. Requires technical skills experience and knowledge in the area of park maintenance. This role is accountable for activities and ensures services or products comply with written procedures engineering drawings specifications contracts industry standards and statutory codes and requirements.

Essential Functions:

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act this classification may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

  • Leads and oversees the daily maintenance activities of three or more Park Technician I or II or Park Helper employees which includes: assigning work tasks and ensuring maintenance activities are completed as delegated;

  • Performs quality control analysis on equipment supported systems turf management ball field preparation and all other park assets included in assigned property;

  • Performs journey-level tasks of the parks and recreation specialization;

  • Conducts on-the-job training for assigned staff and performs all essential functions of Park Technician I or II or Park Helper;

  • Maintains comprehensive activity operations service and usage records on supported vehicles equipment and systems;

  • Prepares oral and written activity reports;

  • Identifies common and abnormal conditions and diseases of turf grasses trees ornamental shrubs and directs remedial actions;

  • Monitors contracted employee performance;

  • Performs skilled maintenance in environmentally-sensitive locations historic restorations fencing equestrian complexes camping facilities ponds trails adobe buildings habitat restorations erosion prevention and control of invasive species.


Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in a Parks & Recreation specialization appropriate to assigned duties AND one year of journey-level experience in the same trade craft or operations area of required expertise.


(Relevant five years of journey-level experience in the trade craft or operational area of required expertise may substitute for completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.)

OR:

One (1) year experience with Pima County as a Parks Specialist I.

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Minimum two (2) years journey-level experience in the construction areas of grading forming pouring and finishing concrete.

  • Minimum two (2) years journey-level experience in the loading securing transport and field use of heavy equipment to excavate trench and grade.

  • Minimum two (2) years journey-level experience in the installation of commercial-type fencing (including chain link field wildlife and bollards).

  • Experience in large tree pruning and complete removal.

  • Basic welding experience.

  • Minimum one (1) year supervisory experience.

  • Training in and knowledge of OSHA ADOSH and AZDOT regulations and compliance.

  • Basic computer experience utilizing e-mail Excel spreadsheets work order documents and reports.

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates:Valid driver license is required at time of application.ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
