LOCATION: LPSREPORTS TO: Building PrincipalSUMMARY of ROLE: The role of the paraprofessional in the classroom is to work under the supervision of a professional service provider to directly or indirectly assist and support in providing services to students in the classroom. The role and assignments of a paraprofessional are not defined by a particular student setting or program but rather by students of Paraprofessional Duties: The duties of the paraprofessional may vary based on specific assignments. Duties may also change at any time based on administration or teacher reexamination of student or program needs. The following is a non-inclusive list of duties that all paraprofessionals must be able to perform. DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION INCLUDE:Supporting academic development:Carry out instructional programs and lessons developed by the supervising teacher in all learning individual students or groups of students in performing activities initiated by the teacherIndividually or in small groups reinforce concepts and skills introduced by the teacher in all learning environmentsKeep students on taskImplement assistive technologyImplement accommodations indicated by the social integration:Redirect behavior and implement behavior management plansFacilitate interaction between students Teach and model strategies to peers about how to interact with classmatesSupport the development of communication skills. Supporting functional skills:Assist the student with daily living skills and needs such as eating toileting grooming dressing in transferring positioning and mobility needs as directed by physical therapist occupational therapist or other special education or related service providersServing as a communication link:Provide the teacher/staff with information about general education assignments activities and student participation and behaviorInform general education staff about student participation and behaviorInform general education staff about student programs and adaptationsObserve record and collect data as directedAs directed share information with other paraprofessionals and school community support:Assist teacher with clerical tasks correcting student work and material or room preparations and equipment with other students about inappropriate behavior language or actionsProvide supervision and assistance on playgrounds in the lunchroom at assemblies on field trips or in other locations as QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrates knowledge of the curriculum content for classes in which they assistWillingly participates in skill and competency training and in-servicesIs discreet and respectful of confidential information mattersPossesses physical and emotional health necessary for effective job performanceStrives to work cooperatively with school a warm and receptive attitude toward all studentsComplies with school district employment policiesIndividuals need to pass the Para Pro test or have an Associates Degree.
