The Health Department is located on Rucker Avenue in Everett WA situated a few blocks from the main Snohomish County Campus. The department integrated with Snohomish County in 2023 sitting under the Executive Branch of County government. The successful Director will oversee 3 Divisions Office of the Director Prevention Services and Environmental Health. The operating budget over the biennium 2025-2026 budget is $with an approved FTE of 196.05.
BASIC FUNCTION
The Health Department Director is responsible for the development and efficient delivery of public health services and programs throughout Snohomish County. The Health Department Director is expected to have a full working knowledge of local public health programs laws and regulations. This position requires innovative leadership and active collaboration with a diverse range of departments agencies and community partners and managing a dynamic department to equitably address public health issues in a rapidly changing community environment.

Performs special projects that may be outside the normal areas of assignment as directed. May be tasked with performing related duties. Related duties are duties that may not be specifically listed in the position description but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employees classification of work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
ABachelors Degree from an accredited institution in public administration public health health services management or a closely related field; PLUS six (6) years of experience in public health management or health services management/administration including three (3) years of management experience; OR any equivalent combination of training and/or expertise that provides the required knowledge and abilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree from an accredited institution in a health-related field or business-related field is preferred and may substitute for up to (2) two years of the experience requirement.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A valid Washington State Drivers License is required. Applicants may be subject to a background check pursuant to RCW 43.43.83

SUPERVISION
The employee reports directly to the County Executive through an assigned Executive Director. The employee is responsible for all operations of the department and the work is preformed independently in conformance with the County Code County Health Code and various state and federal laws rules and regulations governing the work. Work is reviewed through meetings status reports and results obtained.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most of the work is performed in the usual office environment or remotely with occasional field trips to work sites throughout Snohomish County. Some out-of-county travel may be required. The employee may also be required to work evenings weekends and holidays as necessary.
