Come join Central Fleet Management the team that keeps the State of Maine light duty vehicle fleet on the road. Whether it be Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Marine Resources Human Services or any other agency in State government Central Fleet Management needs a Fleet Support Specialist to oversee our stockroom order accessories vehicle and office supplies. In addition you will have the opportunity to learn valuable skills which will offer you chances for advancement within our organization and throughout State government.

You will be part of a team of fleet professionals and service a wide variety of fleet customers. Our team centrally manages the entire State fleet of light duty vehicles allowing the agencies to focus on their services to the public.

This work involves providing support services and performing administrative functions for agency fleet management. Responsibilities include requisitioning receiving storing and issuing a variety of automotive and mechanical parts supplies hardware accessories and tools to support fleet maintenance and repair issuing lease assignments authorizing and controlling maintenance and repairs issuing registrations and insurance cards examining accident reports and coordinating with Risk Management and receiving and determining disposition of turned in vehicles. Work is performed under limited supervision.

As a Fleet Support Specialist you will:

  • Requisitions receives stores and issues a variety of automotive and mechanical parts tires supplies hardware and tools to support fleet maintenance and repair operations.
  • Writing and maintaining specifications for vehicle accessories.
  • Receives and examines accident reports involving leased and rental vehicles to coordinate payment with Risk Management.
  • Determines and authorizes repairs cleaning and maintenance of vehicles to prepare them for auction.
  • Assigns vehicles to maximize useable life.
  • Issues tracks and controls fuel cards to ensure appropriate use.
  • Maintains vehicle inventory repair maintenance and accident logs to document vehicle history.
  • Assigns and oversees the work of subordinates to ensure duties are performed in a timely and acceptable manner.
  • Contacts vendors to resolve problems and ensure repairs parts and accessory costs are appropriate.
  • Receives prepares documents and registers new vehicles to place them into service.
  • Receives and evaluates turned in vehicles to determine disposition of vehicle.
  • Determines and authorizes repairs and maintenance of vehicles to ensure proper and safe operation.

Successful candidates should have:

  • Knowledge of modern office management principles practices procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of inventory and parts control procedures.
  • Knowledge of vehicle accessory equipment and specifications.
  • Knowledge of vehicle operations.
  • Knowledge of vehicle repairs maintenance parts and procedures.
  • Knowledge of state vehicle inspection and registration procedures.
  • Knowledge of related risk management policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of accident reporting procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose basic vehicle problems.
  • Ability to authorize and control vehicle repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to schedule vehicle repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to evaluate and appraise vehicle fair market value.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to write clearly and effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four (4) years experience in automotive service or support to include one (1) year of administrative experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and more specifically Excel.
