Summary :

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) Support Lead delivers high quality patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated patient care services. Plays a crucial role in enhancing the patient care experience and supporting the overall functioning of the healthcare team. Provides quality service through a team oriented collaborative approach to patient care.
The PCT Support Lead assists with ongoing training and/or precepting of new and current employees as directed by leadership. The Lead is responsible for ensuring new processes equipment and other changes are communicated and/or educated to other PCTs.

Job Description:

Key Accountabilities

Team Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Supervise and guide PCTs in providing patient care.
  • Train and mentor new PCTs to ensure unit expectations and standards are known and followed and patient cares are delivered in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Ensure that all team members are following established protocols and procedures.
  • Conduct annual competencies for PCTs on unit
  • Participate in interviewing applicants hiring and create onboarding schedule.
  • Participate in unit quality surveillance activities conduct audits as per request of leadership
  • Be an active member of Unit Council and process improvements

Direct Patient Care:

  • Performs delegated patient care activities using evidence-based practice and specific competencies for the patient population served.
  • Checks patients vital signs height and weight as needed based on patient type.
  • Provides compassionate care and listens to patients concerns and guides them by answering any questions or concerns.
  • Identifies and escalates changes in patient status or patient risks to prevent crisis.
  • Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports to care team.
  • Repositions transfers ambulates and transports patients.
  • Assists patients with basic needs (such as hygiene eating using the restroom and dressing).
  • Obtains and reports patient intake and output.
  • Performs electrocardiograms (ECGs) as directed.
  • Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection.
  • Provides care that is age appropriate culturally specific and developmentally appropriate in an environment that promotes patient safety.
  • Demonstrates professional and therapeutic relationships with patients families team members and providers.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • American Heart Association HealthCare Provider Life Support (BLS)
  • Preceptor Course required upon hire and completed within first 30 days
  • A minimum of 2 years of PCT experience
  • Good communication skills and teamwork a must
  • Preferred: Previous leadership experience

Physical Demands

  • Ability to move freely (standing stooping walking bending pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

Work Environment

  • Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock
  • Occasional high noise level in work environment
  • Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time
  • Transporting transferring positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another; little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases hazardous materials and pharmacological agents
  • Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
