At least a bachelors degree in area of SpecialEducation from an accredited four-year college/university Hold a valid and current InterventionSpecialist License (Mild/Moderate Moderate/Severe) or equivalent as deemed bythe Ohio Department of Education
Adequate knowledge of students with Emotional andBehavioral Disorders
Must be willing to be a member of a multi-disciplinaryteam focusing on the emotional and mental well-being of school aged students
Must be willing to participate in continuing educationto continually build knowledge base and skill level working with students withBehavioral and Emotional Disorders within the hospital setting Currently certified or become certified in CPIStrong communication skills
KNOWLEDGE OF:
The characteristics and various diagnoses of studentswith Emotional and Behavioral disorders Familiarity with various assessment toolsmethods and functional behavior assessments Data Collection
Principles theories practices and techniques used incurriculum development and classroom instruction for students with Emotionaland Behavioral Disorders ranging from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Knowledge of Ohios Academic Content Standardsincluding modifications and implementation to meet each students needs
Curriculum and lesson plan development includingdifferentiation
Positive Behavior Support Strategies
Strategies to improve or manage sensory regulationdysfunction across environments Strategies to improve communication and socialintegration skills across environments Strategies to de-escalate behaviors
DESCRIPTION:
Provide education to students from across Ohio in theBehavioral Health unit at Nationwide Childrens Hospital
Follow all the Federal and State Guidelines for theEducation of Children with Disabilities IDEIA and the Operating Standards forOhios Schools Serving Children with Disabilities
Participate in daily and weekly meetings with facultyand staff on the Behavioral Health unit regarding status of current students
Conduct short pre- and post assessments to monitorindividual student progress.
Support parents and family members as activeparticipants in all aspect of the students evaluation educational servicesand decision-making
Communicate with students school district of residenceto obtain any necessary paperwork (IEP class work) Communicate with students school district ofresidence regarding needs for the student when returning back to school; thiscould include coordinating a meeting with hospital and school staff
