The purpose of the Staff Education Departmentis to provide quality education and training programs for CMHHIP staff which provide initial job training and on-going self-development through the acquisition of new skills and knowledge. Mandatory training programs New Employee Orientation Program and other multidisciplinary healthcare professional development programs for approximately 1200 employees. Staff Education is responsible for assessing the educational needs of staff and then delivering targeted programs which addresses those identified needs. Tracking and reporting of all educational programs as well as staff attendance is another role for the department. Staff Education provides on-going job embedded education and training to improve staff job performance and competence.

Description of Job

The purpose of this position is to educate and train CMHHIP staff in a variety of curriculum classes. These curricula include but are not limited to Non-Escalation De-Escalation/Crisis Management American Heart Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation American Heart First Aid Seclusion and Restraint Duty to Warn/Restraining Orders/Victim Notification and Milieu Management. This position assists in developing and maintaining standard curriculum that is researched-based meets current best practice standards and is supported by data for the purpose of live training. This curriculum is based on adult learning theories. This position prepares for scheduled training by assuring that current materials and equipment are available organizing assigning and leading other trainers in the provision of training.

Job Duties:

  • This position is a qualified lead instructor of Non-Escalation De-Escalation/ Crisis Management Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Seclusion and Restraint (S&R) and other content as assigned.
  • Ability to demonstrate physical techniques.
  • Instruct CMHHIP courses for which qualified as scheduled.
  • Actively provides direct class supervision consultation and teaching to co-instructors to develop their knowledge competence and confidence.
  • Continually works with other instructors to improve the provision of training on an on-going basis.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques including lecture role play videos and case studies.
  • Lead in educational and instructional activities.
  • Grade and evaluate class tests and exams.
  • Provides course materials to students.
  • Ability to multi-task set priorities and deliver results within designated time frames utilizing staff education and other departmental resources.
  • Informs students of learning expectations.
  • Provides safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Engages students in learning process while encouraging student participation.
  • Uses schedules class time effectively while providing opportunities for student dialogue and interaction.
  • Ensures accurate student attendance and achievement records are required.
  • Enhances learning and reduces incidents of distractions or interruptions to learning (e.g. side-bar conversations cell phone use absenteeism etc.)
  • Ensures accurate student attendance and achievement documentation as required with appropriate instructor signatures.
  • Organizes presentations to provide structure and learning that takes place in large and small groups.
  • Assesses and documents on any participants who are failing the return demonstration skills to determine how and why and then notifies the Director Staff Education.
  • Notifies the Director Staff Education at the time of any injuries that may have resulted to a participate during training. Completes injured on duty (IOJ) documentation and submits to human resources for follow-up.
  • Effectively sets up uses and troubleshoots a wide variety of educational technical equipment that includes laptops data projectors portable hard drives USB drives video cameras sound systems and programs requiring webcams./webinars.
  • Ensures proper equipment is available at the time of instruction.
  • Ensures proper training materials and adequate volume of materials are available in the classroom.
  • Ensures that the instructors assigned for the class are present and if not notifies the Director of Staff Education to make accommodations.
  • Meets with instructors thirty minutes before the start of class to make training assignments and discuss any outstanding issues.
  • Ensures that all training spaces and training equipment (e.g. mats shields coffee maker refrigerator etc) are cleaned at the end of class according to infection control policy.
  • Conducts debriefing with instructors during and after class to discuss what went well and what can be improved.
  • Collaborates with staff education department and its administrative assistants information systems manager program and instruction coordinator and director in the provision of training.
  • Evaluates the curriculum contributes to modifications to better meet the needs of the staff on units.
  • Evaluates the job performance of staff as required by nursing supervisors to determine if interaction techniques and verbal intervention is being done per CMHHIP policy.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Substitutions Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights


Minimum Qualifications:

Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
or
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to six (6) years.

Substitutions:
Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis. (Must attached unofficial transcripts to the application for education as a substitution to be credited)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current or previously Certified Verbal De-Escalation Training/Physical Intervention Instructor RIPP or CPR Instructor
  • Experience in Educational Training
  • Proficient in PowerPoint curriculum development
  • Ability to work independently providing training to staff on units on various shifts
  • Professional writing and speaking skills
  • Proficient in computer usage and applications
  • Physically be able to perform essential job duties such as kneeling bending lifting able to apply mechanical restraints to a standing sitting prone and supine subject



Conditions of Employment:

  • A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position.   • Must successfully pass a TB (tuberculosis) Test.
  • This position will be paid biweekly.
  • Valid and Current Colorado Drivers License.
