About NACCHO

The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) is the national peak body for 146 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). These services provide comprehensive culturally safe primary health care to over half of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population.

NACCHO advocates for transformative health system reform working in partnership with governments and organisations to improve health outcomes through initiatives in chronic disease mental health social and emotional wellbeing and more.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a visionary and strategic Director Mental Health to lead national initiatives that enhance the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This is a unique opportunity to shape policy drive reform and support community-led solutions aligned with the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

You will lead a small collaborative team and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to co-design and implement innovative evidence-based mental health programs including the Culture Care Connect initiative.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and implementation of national mental health and suicide prevention strategies.

Provide high-level policy advice and advocacy on complex and sensitive issues.

Collaborate with ACCHOs government agencies and sector partners to address gaps in mental health care.

Represent NACCHO in national forums and contribute to strategic submissions and position papers.

Support affiliated committees and contribute to NACCHOs broader strategic goals.

About You

You are a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of public health mental health or social policy.

You bring:

Relevant qualifications in health social sciences or a related field.

Experience in government or community-controlled organisations.

A strong understanding of or experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Exceptional communication stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.

A collaborative culturally respectful and outcomes-driven approach.
