The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for a Literacy Instructional Coach for the 2025-26 school year.The requirements for this position are a minimum of a bachelors degree and appropriate Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification and qualifications prescribed by law to include Reading Specialist Certification Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and will have completed (or will commit to completing) an Instructional Coaching Endorsement Program within two years. Position is based at Jackson PrimarySchool or at the determination of the Superintendent salary as per the current contract schedule.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR WASD EMPLOYEES:

The criteria used for determining eligibility when applying for posted vacancies is seniority date. This date is a reference to the employees start date as a permanent employee with the district.

  1. Professional staff who have been in the District fewer than four years must complete 4 years before applying for internal vacancies
  2. Any employee who voluntarily transfers in to a position beginning with the 2018-19 school year must be in that position for at least 5 years before bidding on vacancies again.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

BASIC FUNCTION

The Instructional Coach will be familiar with responsibilities associated with planning and administering the instructional program core reading and math programs and classroom operation in compliance with guidelines and regulations determined by the administration Board of Directors state and federal agencies. He/she will assist in creating an environment that encourages learning motivates students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to establish a firm foundation to perpetuate the learning experience through the elementary middle and high school levels. The Instructional Coach will utilize all resources available to establish a cooperative relationship with parents staff members and administrators to support each students opportunity to learn and grow in his/her educational experience.

The position of Instructional Coach is a 188 day position and shall include active participation in the schools operation to support a positive learning environment. This position reports to and is evaluated annually by the Building Principal and/or his/her designee.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The requirements for this position are a minimum of a bachelors degree and appropriate Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification and qualifications prescribed by law to include Reading Specialist Certification Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and will have completed (or will commit to completing) an Instructional Coaching Endorsement Program within two years.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The Instructional Coach will demonstrate proficiency with the WASD elementary and/or secondary curriculum Benchmarks PA Core Standards and appropriate assessments. He/She will strengthen his/her abilities by reviewing innovative programs supported by best practice and research.

The Instructional Coach must be able to articulate the school and district goals regarding the Districts educational programs to staff students parents and community members. He/She must possess the knowledge pedagogical abilities and attitudes necessary to be a successful scholar decision maker and agent for curriculum enhancement and change. The Instructional Coach will develop and implement staff development programs designed to enhance students performance and meet literacy and mathematical goals. He/She will be responsible for utilizing various data sources to create schedule progress monitor and evaluate the RTII/MTSS system in the building. He/She must be aware of and comfortable using computer and technological applications as educational tools to include utilizing E-mail Microsoft Word spreadsheet and curriculum based software.

AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES ((E) Designates Essential Functions):

1. Develops and implements professional development activities to support teacher instructional strategies best practices and specific instructional topics at the school and district level utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Directors. (E)

2. Collaborates with building principal and instructional technology coach to provide support on the core technology programs within the district (Schoology for example)

3. Identifies through data areas of growth to improve achievement and student performance as identified through state standards and state assessments. Utilizes the data to create monitor and evaluate the RTII/MTSS system within the building. (E)

4. Assists teachers in analyzing data to guide individualized and small group instruction (as necessary) to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Determines the appropriate pace for instruction related to students abilities and explains material and subject content to students and parents in both math and ELA.

5. Analyzes student data to determine in class small group classroom interventions in both math and ELA. (E)

6. Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records prepares

student progress reports and provides accurate and constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians (as necessary) and administers student assessments in accordance with district guidelines as part of progress monitoring or student support meetings. (E)

7. Assists and co-analyzes common assessment data to determine benchmarks establish goals and monitor improvement in both math and ELA (E)

8. Provides support to teachers through frequent classroom visits. Observations will provide supportive consulting guided reflection and feedback

9. Coach support may include planning modeling and co-teaching effective lessons with teachers. Special emphasis will be provided to new staff.

10. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day. (E)

11. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with District regulations.

12. Participates in curriculum development programs.

13. Participates in faculty committees meetings and other faculty sponsored programs

supporting the educational program and makes presentations on the literacy or math program to staff parents Board of Directors and other interested groups.

14. Maintains professional competence through District sponsored in-service programs with additional professional development in the areas of coaching skills and adult learning. Completes all professional development activities and graduate credit coursework associated with instructional coaching endorsement within the established district timeframe. (E)

15. Demonstrates regular and timely attendance. (E)

16. Is able to speak and write in a clear concise manner. (E)

17. Is able to move throughout the building (all floors) and school grounds as necessary. (E)

18. Is able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) lbs. (E)

19. Participates in the selection of books and other instructional materials.

20. Follows all Board policies and building procedures and submits required information and reports within identified timelines. (E)

21. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal Superintendent or his/her designee.
