As a Scrutiny Officer you will be at the heart of Newhams democratic process working closely with Members Chief Officers and key stakeholders to strengthen public accountability and governance. You will play a key role in ensuring Scrutiny is dynamic effective and able to drive real change in the borough.
This is more than a support roleyoull be a trusted advisor and practitioner helping to shape policy and influence decision-making. Working alongside the Head of Scrutiny and Governanceand senior scrutiny colleagues you will ensure that Scrutiny remains robust challenging and forward-thinking holding the Council to account whilst supporting its strategic priorities.
In this role you will:
Engage with senior leaders to develop innovative Scrutiny approaches
Ensure that the residents voice is amplifiedand that the voice of the community is heard
Challenge policies and practices to drive better decision-making
Build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders expert witnesses and partner organisations
Promote transparency and accountability by promoting scrutiny
